I entered a 400pt combat patrol tourny this weekend and I have never played a game at such a small point level with guard. I have a basic idea for two lists, each playing on the Guard's strength, numbers and heavy weapons. The first list would include a full conscript platoon, and as many other guardsmen as I could, than a firebase of heavybolters. The other list would consist of as many heavy weapons as physicaly possible, so anybody got advice on combat patrol?

A chimera is amazing in combat patrol just give it a multi-laser, hull HB, and a heavy stubber and put some vets. or storm troopers in it and it will do wonders.
For combat patrol i use 1 platoon consisting of 3 squads with gL's and HB's and a junior officer with 4 special weopans, i also use light infantry, camoleoline and sharpshooters.
Many people may dissagree with me on the effectiveness of this list, but out of 6 games that iv'e played with it, iv'e won five. The squad infiltrate into cover and lay down fire with their HB's, while my junior officer (the special weopans change depending on mood) infiltrates close enough to do some damage.....
I would suggest a list of minimum sized infantry platoons, each squad with a heavy weapon and a special weapon in every 10 man squad. Add Iron Discipline to the two officers, then if you've still got points, keep adding infantry or remnants squads with more and more weapons.
Two Chimeras work really well as it is too much armour for most 400pt lists to deal with. I preffer two armoured fist squads over the elite choices as you can deploy them out of the transport as a fire base.
However, I usually run one four squad platoon with 2x ML/PG squads and 2x HB/GL squads. The Command squad will have ID and a couple of GLs.
It's worth a krak!
I do what Kaiser said. A bare bones platoon looks like this:Originally Posted by Kaiser

Cram in as many heavy weapons as possible. You can take 2 platoons, plus an HQ, and that's leaves you 100 points for heavy weapons. Heavy bolters rule in this situation, and I would take some autocannons for good luck!
Tyranids: 2500 pts
Imperial Guard: 1000 pts
Witch Hunters: 1000 pts
I always take one platoon and an armoured fist squad.
Many enemies don't bring weaponary to deal with a tank as they forgot that some armies can still bring a tank with a decent amount of weaponary. Even tau are likely to only have missile pods which means they aren't going to bust through the front armour in a hurry.

You don't need to fill the required force organization chart, do you?

Eh....It really depends on the rules of the tourney. Typically I think most CP lists make you take 1 troop not 2.
