Ok, I'm working on a custom SM chapter, and am thinking fluffwise, if in no other way, it could be an offshoot of the DA (custom color scheme, natch).
I haven't read the codex in detail, so maybe you veteran DA players out there can answer three questions:
1) What makes the Ravenwing LSs so much better than the ones in the SM codex?
2) What makes the Deathwing termies so much better than the ones in the SM codex?
3) If my army is an offshoot of the DA, am I allowed to take on traits from the SM codex and use just some of the DA special rules or units like Ravenwings or Deathwings, or is it an all-or-nothing thing?
Well i reckon the dark angel LS rule coz you get a 6+ inv save and the termies are stubborn so for that i reckon you should use em.. but that's just my opinion
1: they have the skilled rider ability, and they have the 6+ jink-save.
2: They are stubborn. Which means they don't run away. Ever. Like any other dark-angel should. And you can field a whole army of them.
3: Officially, it's all or nothing. No taking Deathwing terminators in a trait army. Although in friendly games you probably could, with your opponent's permission. But to be on the safe side, don't. Mixing rule sources can create very complicated situations...
"I have died a thousand deaths, and I will die a million more..."
the great thing about Ravenwing is that when equipped with an assault cannon it costs the exact same amount of points as a regular speeder, except with an invulnerable save as well as other skimmer goodness.
Trust me. It is priceless to see a Guard commanders face (especially my brother's) when their lascannon shot was just nixed by the ravenwing jink BOO-YAH!!:w00t:
Deathwing Terminators don't run. Good when fighting that big nasty 'Fex.
But they do get pinned.
No traits and chapter rules mixing. As you put it "Its all or nothing."
The only unit that doesn't get the stubborn ability are the troops, uh sorry there's 2 the ravenvings don't get it either
while DA tac squads aren't stubborn it is an option for vet sergeants to take, and if a model isn't stubborn its intractable which means it doens't fall back from shooting
The best thing about the DA Codex is the Deathwing Army List. If you wanted to create an army that is entirely terminators, dreadnoughts and land raiders, you have to use the DA Codex.
Also, the Stubborn rule will spoil you when you get used to squads never running away. I forgot marines could break until I started playtesting Traits marines.
As for Ravenwing, yeah, the keyword here is 6+ "jink" save.
RecklessFable's Journey to Mediocrity (Painting an IG army)
I've been addicted to World of Tanks lately and neglecting my IG... But it is so... much... fun!
While indeed they do get stubborn from Veteran Sergeants, according to the Universal Special Rules, stubborn spreads across an entire unit and counts as fearless, except they test for pinning.Originally Posted by Psionic
