On paper the flamers and heavy flamers are pretty cool. They are also super cheap for sisters to get. However versus armies like orks, tyranids, nekrons, space marines and chaos, it seems like I dont want to ever be close enough to use them. Thats all but Imperial guard, Tau, Eldar and Dark Eldar. Does this meen that flamers are only usefull on half of the aponents I face? How often does every one else use sisters with flamers?
Ladies and gentlemen of the public...
That is not right!
Flamers are useful against everyone!
After the years I have of 40K experience I know that they work against any army.
I know a guy that's been playing sisters for the last 2-3 years... he hasn't lost a single battle as I know of... and it is quite a lot thanks to all the flamers he brings along.
It's just a matter of how effective they are.
They are less effective against well armoured enemies, but against softer enemies like orks, tyranids, IG and dark eldar they can be very effective.
My best advice to you is to experiment with them, try to find out for yourself whe it is best to use them.

I WAS IN THE IMPERIAL (Norwegian) GUARD!
Dragonslayero, I think you misunderstood him a little .
It is true that staying away from Orks, Nids and CSM is generally the wiser option. However, you can't keep running from them, so basically what you have to do is hold still whilst firing bolters, then when they're close (2 turns later or so), move forward and flame them. Staying away is only really possible for Eldar and Dark Eldar, as a SoB player you'll find yourself close to the enemy at all times.

Fast attack squads in rhinos can be a good idea against plain ork boys some nids etc, roll up in the rhino stop a few inchs short deploy, fire bolters flamer etc lots of deaths, assault phase back into the rhino, most ork and nid troops dont have anything that can damage a rhino's front armour, and as long as they cant get behind you in the movement phase they arent allowed to use the assault phase to move round to the rear.
During a four army game yesterday my wifes sisters used the flamers deployed from tanks to devastating effect against nids, decimating the army to a hive tyrant + 1 stealer losing no sisters in the process (although she did lose an immolater and a rhino. (Hive tyrants work), Meanwhile the wolves managed to slaughter the orks army losing 3 brothers but keeping all their vehicles. A Resounding imperial victory , although why the orks and the nids teamed up is anybody's guess???? surely they had no common goal? And wolves fighting beside sisters is only a little better fluff wise, but still one heck of a game
Unfortunately when fighting marines though it can be disasterous, my wife laid down 6 flamer templates (4 heavies and 2 normal from amongst the other sisters squads in the area) on two bunched up squads of blood claws the other day managed to kill off just 2 brothers unfortunately there were no rhinos to run back to,the reason there were so many squads in the area was the recent demise of several sisters rhinos at the hands of the bloodclaws multimeltas, the next turn was just plain horrible, for the sisters.
OK easy - use flamers against everything, even the toughes saves can fail, flamer hit a large number of bods so use them, the only real exception to this is Serephim, who I am starting to think shouldnt bother.
Everything you have been told is a lie!
