not to be confused with my "what is your fav. specialality", this is more of a: "What attracts you to space marines?"
This can include:
-Sub-sects (Librarium, Reclusium, apothacarium, armoury [Mechanicus])
-The plain idea of being in charge of a thousand of humanity's finest...
Originally, i was attracted to space marines to crush my arch-foe (Necrons), i got sucked in by the history and ideaology, and the darker side of space marines. I was also lured into the adeptus mechanicus through the space marines. I eventually (through space marines) found out that my loyalties lie with my own race...Humanity.
In short, space marines delivered me from the darkness of the tau and chaos ( but not orks, and dark eldar:shifty: ).
Cheers fellow servants of the Emperor!
Probably the fact that they're running a whole totalitarian empire (the darker side as you put it), ruled by comatose psyker. The fluff surrounding the primarchs is pretty cool too.
It's the armor that got me started though. And chainswords.
What interests me most, in ANY army, is the fluff surrounding it. If I don't like an army's fluff, I won't play it.
Second is the fact that it's a quite forgiving army, that doesn't mind me making a mistake or two along the way when I'm playing
Anyway, my favorite aspect of the marines has to be the librarium. The psykers and the fact that they guard all knowledge of a fairly anti-psyker reign is just a beautiful paradox in a universe filled with complex simplicities. (and yes, I know this explanation makes no sense to most of you )
"I have died a thousand deaths, and I will die a million more..."
Whats not to like of a genetically altered human who stands over 7 feet? Personally i liked the fluff of them. You can build your own chapter with background and whatever suits your fancy. They are also extremely versatile in a fight. You can slug it out or shoot it out with just a few minor adjustments.
The more books i read about the history of them the more i enjoy them. Although admittedly it was easier to choose them over my second choice of Sisters of Battle because of the battle for Macragge boxed set, and i found a bunch of old models on sale.
I like Space Marines because they are so far removed from the rest of humanity. Genetically altered, brain washed, and outfitted with the best equipment the Imperium has to offer. They are the perfect soldiers, and what's more they don't even listen to anyone but their own leadership. They fly around space whooping the crap out of everything they see as a threat without having to answer to anyone for their actions.
There was a bit of fluff in the 3rd edition rulebook that was an account from an inquisitor that had asked for help from some Space Marines (white panthers I think it was?) he had a whole plan to take out the upper leadership of the planetary government, and they basically just thanked him for pointing out the traitors and went to work on the populace.
It reminds me of that scene in Diehard when the FBI guy tells the NYPD guy, "Thanks, we'll take it from here. We'll try to let you know when we comandeer your men."
"Honor and Vengeance! For The Emperor, on the last day!
I like the fact that they are versatile. I try to make my army as balanced as possible, between CC and shooty, heavy weapons vs. fast attack, etc. Try doing that with nids, or the Tau, or pretty much any other army.
i like the idea of playing the 'good guys' who are also the 'bad guys'
i sypathise with the imperium and how they work, and then chaos and how wrong the imperium is... and i tend to confuse myself... oh well!
I like them simply because one on one they can pound just about anyone else into the ground. They are simply bad ass. I love their armor and their history. I love the fact that they are about as close to an order of knights as you'll find the the 40K realm.
May your aim be true, and your targets plentiful.
i likd that you could make your own little army in the 40k world, your own fluff. this oppertunity to really create your own army from scratch pulled me down
and besides having an army of the best of the best of the best is coooooool!
I think the best part of Space Marines is their ease of play. It is pretty much pick up and play. But then you also have the aspect of challenge. Its easy to really kit out a commander but he isn't invincible. You need to know where and how to spend the points.
