I think it's worth it because you only need to save about 4 guardsmen and you got the points back. It also makes them die alot less because they no longer get pierced by bolters or pulse rifles or any such weapons. So what do you guys think about it?
it is good but very expensive especially in large armies with lots of Troops. Its great in small battles where you only need apply it to liek 7 squads or something or even less if you use Grenadiers.
IG since '95.
I think it's definitely worth it. Discounting the increase in CC, think about ranged weapons. Many, many basic weapons have AP 5- Hellguns, Bolters, Pulse Rifles, Shuriken weapons, frag grenades and missiles, etc. What has AP 4 or better? Mostly heavy weapons- autocannons, heavy bolters, plasma and melta weapons, Lascannons, etc. Stuff you're not going to see a lot of. Suddenly, you go from losing most of your army in a few devastating volleys, to being able to soak up a lot more fire and still probably lose less guys. Before Carapace armor? Ten SM shots into a squad. Seven hits. Five-six wounds. You lose five or sx Guradsmen right there, have to take a Morale check, and never be able to regroup if you fall back. With armor, you lose two or three. That's a lot better, especially if you could keep your plasma gunner and grenade launcher, and they rain firey death on those damn toy soldiers!
Si em, tow en can de lach.
Tak! Tak! Tak ah wan, Tak a lah!
Mi tow, can de lach.
Mi him, en tow.
Carapace to me is a fluffy thing. Its good if you dont take it and its good if you do. Think about it. IF oyu dont have it you will most likly be in cover. That to me is better then an armor safe casue nothign can take away cover. You end up having more men on the field so that means more shooting resulting to more wounds on the table. With armor you get to save against bolters and etc if you are dealt a unlucky hand and dotn have that much cover to hide behind. Sure you have less guys but more survive. So its do or dont. It not liek a lascannon which its a must have.

One thing one could do is to take the Alternate Regimental Organisation - Grenadiers, Skills and Drills - Veterans and Special Equipment - Carapace Armour. This would allow you to take..."Hardened Veteran Storm Troopers"!!! They cost virtually the same points as standard Storm Troopers and have the same stat line. Moreover, they can take THREE special weapons AND a heavy weapon. Furthermore, you can have standard Storm Troopers as Troops choices and "Hardened Veteran Storm Troopers" as Elites.
I'm thinking of trying it. Using the inquisitorial (standard) Storm Trooper miniatures for the “Hardened Veteran Storm Troopers and the Kasrkins as the Grenadiers. What does everyone think? Cool, huh?
One problem is that they'd be outnumbered most of the time though...I think... <_<
Another advantage they have is that they get Infiltrators for free. Lastly, you can also take the Alternate Regimental Organisation - Drop Troops to get free Deep Strike for the "Hardened Veteran Storm Troopers" as they count as Guard Infantry.
i think it's definetly worth it. 2 pts per guardsmen in an infantry squad? thas a very decent price right there that's more likely to survive bolter fire. i am definetly taking it in my new army

Well how I see it, it rocks. Since somtimes you may be facing bolters, suirican catapaults, pulse rifles, and whatever else can pen. a 5+ save.....well can't. So for the extra points I would.
When goblins blow themselves up its stupidity. But when humans blow themselves up its bravery....odd isn't it
If your going to face a lot of Tau then definatly take it. I play Tau (I'm also starting an IG army) and most of the shots are AP 5 when you take into account that Fire Warriors, Pathfinders, Stealth Suits, and Gun Drones all carry Strength 5 AP 5 weaponry. Personally I think getting a 4+ save is better than simply dying on a two from your enemy.
A friend of mine plays Lost and the Damned and he faired much better against me after he gave his mutants the Nurgle upgrade to 4+ save....
Carapace Armor is great..if you have the pts. I rarely ( never ) take it in my 1800 pts army, id rather spend the pts on more heavy / special weapons. The thing is guardsmen arn't really suppose to survive fire, there meant more for bulking up the line. Plus from a fluff side of things, having the Imperium produce billions of carapace armor...well that just ain't happening. If we could take over 10 guys per squad...then it might be worth lookin at...

i think it fits more with elite styled armies, or those who come from a forge world. that way they'd have access to more durable equipment
