After a few years of Warhammer-abstinence, I want to start playing again, this time 40k instead of Fantasy as I found the the background to be so much richer. I'm also hooked on the Inquisition fluff, especially the Ordo Xenos.With the Codex apparently still a few years away, I decided to use the WH Codex because of the broad range of units allowed.
Since Deathwatch are the only OX-specific unit, I thought about basing my army around an Adeptus Mechanicus explorator group investigating xeno-tech, supported/monitored by a radical Ordo Xenos Inquisitor and his retinue.
Here's the list of units I plan to use and what they'd represent:
Inquisitor (Lord) -> Magos
Arco-Flagellants (possibly Penitent Engines too) -> combat servitors based on xeno-specimen (tyranids most probably)
Death-Cult Assassin -> Electro-Priest
Inq. Stormtroopers -> Skitarii
Celestians/Dominions/Retributors -> Bodyguard/Gun Servitors
Chimera/Rhino/Immolator/Exorcist -> Mechanicus vehicles
While I'd play this army because of the fluff and conversion possibilities, I still want it to be tolerably competitive. But with zero 40k experience, I've got no idea: How viable is a WH army with maybe 3 SoB units at most and not using faith points? I guess I could pretend the latter represent some machine cult rituals, but I'd prefer not to.
Another thing I'm unsure of is if and how to include more Deathwatch units. Does the DW actually use any vehicles? I was considering specialized DW Razorbacks (Immolator) and a DW Whirlwind (Exorcist) for example.
Ordo Xenos seems to be very distant from the Adepta Sororitas and the Adeptus Ministorum which they belong to. Not to say they don't cooperate, but I don't think they do so on a regular basis.
The Deathwatch is pooled from every space marine chapter that isn't viewed with suspicion by the Inquisition. Basically, its an all black space marine with one shoulder patch with the emblem of the parent space marine chapter.
Games Workshop killteam scenarios has several articles about...you guessed it, killteam scenarios. It also points you to where you can find information about kill teams, Chapter Approved 2003, where the rules for killteams have been printed
For more general information about killteams, try the wiki article for Killteam and Ordo Xenos
I think your best bet is to have a combined Space Marine and Imperial Guard army. Of course, you'll probably need permission from your opposing player. Other than that, having a deathwatch kill team will probably be great too.
Just some thoughts
Hmm, you didn't quite get my point (actually you didn't get it at all ).
I don't want Alienhunters allied with Witchhunters, I want a build a Alienhunters army using the Witchhunters ruleset. I'll use the Sisters models with servitor models for example.
My main concern wit the concept is playability/competitiveness:Originally Posted by JaqTaar
