I was just looking for some different ways to get marines into CC. The rhino rush has lost most of its viability since 4th edition. Im not sure how many people like using drop pods, I personally dislike using them, not to mention my friends hate deep striking marines.:w00t: I usually play either my Space Wolves, or BT any advice would be greatly appreaciated.
with my personal traits army i infiltrate my assault troops, getting up to 12'' is nice, a possible first time charge.
otherwise with assault marines hug the terrain.
deep strike could be really devestating if you are a bit lucky. make sure you have enough space to compensate for tghe scatter.
hope it helps
"Ask not the Eldar a question, for they will give you three answers; all of which are true and terrifying to know"
Uh no. Even with infiltrate, you can not make a first turn charge unless A) you happen to be infiltrating shrikes wing or your oponent gets first turn and m oves towards your troops.Originally Posted by elfwarden
Also, by assualt troops, I hope you didnt mean assault marines as they can not infiltrate.
Ive found the best way to get into close combat is with a higher movement rate. Jump packs or bikes being your best bet.
Mentor of Space Marine Commanders far and wide.
Efficiency VS Point Cost VS Ease Of Use - Your best bets:
1) Chaplain led Assault squad - 2 plasma pistols, powerfisted sergeant
2) 8 man Devastator squad - 4 missile launchers
3) Land Speeder Tornado - HB + AC
I have been using Drop Pods and Jump Packs to get me there, and it has been working pretty well (drop podding a librarian next to a Carnifex is pretty awesome), but I have a Land Raider Crusader in the works right now, so that may become the premier troop delivery system if it works out.
Bolter Blasting Blizzard = Victory
They've got two feet and a coupl'a heart's beats. THey can damn well tromp it out. They get shot? Mah, the deepstriking Assaulies are already behind the enemy sneaking up behind them in that oh-so cartoony way.
Something to be said about the whole "let's go walking" strategy. It's usually completely ignored because it's so stupid. Then they charge and the enemy goes "Oh NO! The POWER FIST!!!"
Post your army lists in the ARMY LIST section! Not that hard!
I boogytrap my opponents.
I have my 2/3 rhino's riding up the field next to eachother forming a gunshield for my directly following Vindicator/bikes/Foot troops/whatever. I go full speed and smoke on turn 1. Second Turn I boost up the field 12" unload my rhino's and do combat from there.
If my opponents comes to me, I have it easy to get in combat with my Space Wolves. If my opponent runs (like mobile eldar/tau) I have my 2/3 drop pods and Wolf Scouts snaring them in turn 2/3.
I combine all skills available when I see fit, for easy going. Here are the fast approach ways we have access to.
Drop Pod Assault
I play BT and either use jump packs, LRC or 15 man crusader squads w/chaplain that can spare a few casualties to run forwards.

Land Raiders, Bikes, and Jump Packs. The rest of my marines shouldn't be in hand to hand unless I am desperate.
Games Workshop is the Wal-Mart of hobby products, except for the low prices. The lack of respect and profit mongering is there in spades.
I use assault troops a lot, sometimes some bikes, but mostly I use drop pods. Most of the time my opponent doesn't know how to respond or the response isn't very good. And sometimes I just get screwed. Win some, lose some.
Drop pods I get shot once and then I'm in CC, If I foot slog I get shot 2-3 times. Rhino rush is the same way if it blows and they are entangled. So I use pods.
May your aim be true, and your targets plentiful.
