** I started a poll like this in the Necron board and I think it would be interesting to hear the same thoughts on other armies **
You announce that you will be playing your Space Marines.
What are some of the common statements you hear from your opponents?
Those of you without a Space Marine force chime in as well on the Poll.
You look accross the table and see the Space Marines massing for assault.
What are you thinking, when you see Space Marines lining up against your prize army?
40K: Tyranid, Necron, Space Wolves
Fantasy: Dark Elves, Lizardmen, Orcs & Goblins, Dwarves
I chose the hope for a good fight choice, but in truth I always smile and hope for a good fight regardless of the enemy list. Its up to my opponent and me to make it close with the way we adapt to the board and each others tactics...
Take my love, take my land, take me to where I cannot stand; I don't care I'm still free, you can't take the sky from me.

Nid, Khorne Chaos, Orks player to my space marines. Easy
Nid player Refering to my Terminators in Land Raider
Crunchy surface with crunchy second layer and creamy center
Space Players to me. Close fight
Rest to me with BA: Is that a Cheese army. or I'm gonna die.
I always get a bit nervous when fighting a Space Marine army because they usually have a lot of Lascannons and Plasma Guns, not to mention being equipped with Power Armour. Maybe it's just me but the majority of lists I face tend to be hyper-efficient with regards to point usage and amount of firepower. Dark Angels are the worst, though, as you have to kill every last one of them before you finally silence their Heavy weapons, by which time they've wrecked half your army. I just have to play my best and hope they get some bad rolls.
dang now I gtg kill off a lot of 3+ saves.
my reaction to SM players. "easy victory" (haven't lost one against them yet....with my own SMs of course)

Here is the thing. Some armies just dont match up well together but because of space marines well roundedness and general awesomeness they always put up a decent fight and are often called cheesy becuase some armies just arent good at stuff. So dont expect firewarriors to take an objective from an squad of ork boys.

I play Ultramarines sooo people know right off I am new to the game...
Most say: "Great looking Ultramarines."
Nid player says: "LUNCH!" (sometimes he eats his WORDS too!)
I have never played against eldar (light or dark), or necrons...
Once a Marine, always a Marine.
I think it depends on the player and the chapter. I just fought marines on marines, Templars on Templars in fact. Our forces were pretty equally matched and I annilated the guy's army. I mean his entire force was destroyed . Anyway, I think it really depends on the player.
Generally I expect a close fight. Sometime I get owned, sometimes I do the owning. I love traits. No Respite, No Mercy - Take the Fight to Them - Eye to Eye: If I get the charge I can drop just about anything if I setup my squad to be a close combat beast.
I've absolutely destroyed Khorne (in close combat) and Iron Warriors (via shooting thanks to Escalation). On the other hand I've been absolutely annihilated as well.
May your aim be true, and your targets plentiful.
