I've a 1500pt match scheduled for next Friday against Maines. I'm still new at 40K so I'm looking for some advice.
Are Flamers effecitve aginst Mainres? I was looking to put 2 in my assault squad and 1 in each of my Crusader squads.
Is it worth it or not?
Hmm, i tend to find that assault squads, are there for assaults. I would equip two plasma pistols instead of two flamers. Well either way still can be good.. but just make sure you don't kill a LOT which will prevent you from assaulting, which is bad if you get shot up.
I tend to take the flamer assault, against non-MEQs(Marine type armies) thats my personal preference.
Flamers on marines aren't worth it IMO. I'd go with plasma.
I would go with gambits idea of plasma...very affective againts marines:yes:

The reason for bringing flamers in the first place is beacause Horde armies (Orks, nids, IG) dont have a awsome save like marines (3+) they have like 4+ or worse. BUT they do have the numbers to fire back and with that many dice in the shooting phase they are forcing you to roll massive amounts of saves! wich is bad. So agenst meq armies (SM, CSM, Necrons) its best to take plasma weapons beacause with a Str thats double your opponents T. you get to insta-kill them.
So keep your flamers at home for this one. They will be usefull in the future.

Toughness 4 versus Strength 7. Sorry, but Plasma is one point shy of instant killing Marines and such. The trick is that plasma can punch through their armour. Now Melta weapons, Lascannons and Krak Missiles, on the other hand... :yes:Originally Posted by Watusa
i recomend 1 flamer and 1 pp on as assault squad. best of both worlds, and the massive # of hits from flamers can kill marines.
But stick with plasma on the footsloggers.

If you're going to put flamers in any SM squad, try to ensure that that unit will have a delivery vector of at least 12".
Ie: On assault marines, in a rhino, whatever.
Don't put it in a squad that can only walk because they'll probably never have a chance to use them properly.
That aside, I tend to like flamers because I tend to roll 1s way, way out of the average with any plasma weapons I take.
While the flamers certainly aren't as effective on paper as plasma pistols against MEQs, when used against a large bunched unit (say a unit that was just involved in an assault, just deployed from a drop pod or rhino ect.) they can be quite effective for their points cost.

I've seen flamers work very well against marines, but as Grey said, you need a method of delivery. For multiple flamer barbque, jump packs are probably your best bet.
I've seen a assault squad with a pair of flamers roast a whole squad of 10 marines, leaving 5 standing through sheer number of hits and wounds(and poor rolling too on the armor save) but it can be done.
But all that said, I've never taken them though.
