this week end I discovered (!!) the power of Hth of GK, where 10 GK and 5 GKT have finished 50+ marines.
Since, I realise that I was previously using them badly, avoiding Hth unless inevitable ( I am a former IG, you know :-) , where is seems that is where they Excel, rather.
So , in a sense, I should use them Hth rather than Shooty...
1/ could you confirm my viewpoint ?
Since then, I am toting with the idea of maxing the number of GK on the table ( when today I have 2x fuseur stormies in rhino, and Dreads, etc), to the point of a GK ONLY army.
I Read thread of "full gk", even to the point of OrangeKnight, where virtually no LLC or support are present ( besides a few psycannons for S6)
2/ Unfortunately, I could read no battle report of such pure GK armies ; any experience or links to share ?
3/ Despite it may seems funny, if I have no vehicules leftt, then opponent LLC are not such a thread, as heavy weapon will find no related target worth
(an opponent predator can only cost me maximum of 6 turn x 25 = 150 points, if lucky, and if I assaut 2 nd turn, well, a predator will waste 2 gk max, assuming Hth after that.
in short : why should I spend a a 125 dread to spare 50 in gk ?)
Why cant I just ignore them ( or potentially dealing with them at last, if nothing else left ? (meltabomb on justicar ? hammer on GKT ?)
4/ Have a GK army (40+) plus maybe 5 GKT been tested ?
What would be the odds ? ( 13+ armor that 6S cannot reach ? Big TO ? Dreads ?)
5/ March order ? Lines ? groups ?
6/ tactics ? ( Like a first very wide line to jump Hth 2 turn, screening the rest of the guys, that jumps in just after that ?)
1) Depends on oponent. In some cases you want to avoid cc completely others you want to have an countercharge army. Think extra carefully if you up to: Orks/Berserkers/Tyranids etc.
3) Remember thoose words then your expensive troops dies from lasfire since your oponent dont have to worry about vehicles.
4) Think so, and GK heavy armies tend to be very great against most armies (maybe not against mech-ones... you will hate tau and some eldar armies).
5) Depends on oponent, most people dont field templates but if they do use double lines or circles (dont place any model in the circle), and dont forget about deepstrike even you you loose a squad now and then.
6) Unless your oponent suffers from sudden brainleak you wount be in CC on turn 2 with that kind of list.
Well, it depends on who you play, dreads are incredibly useful, mine killed a fex and a broodlord and held to 5 stealers until reinforcements arrived (did I hear Holy crap) well, gey nights are useful, but dreads are incrdibly cheap and when you have them in numbers of 2-3 they excel ( I like the AC, CCW Solely). An only GK army does not do well, trust me on this one. If yu balance firepower and such, it will excel like fonus said. Of course an all grey knight army has advantages against low AV armies ( DE, static SM, Nids, Orks etc...) but the truth is it depends, you will hate IG ( as im sure you know) or at least mechanized armies, tau are not so bad, but eldar and armoured companies with russes for troops choices will KILL you, trust me again.

The gold grey knight man. These are hardy men who like cheese.
Ever thought of how cheese was found?:
`` I say sah, the milk in this barrel smells foul!``
``Oooohhh, give it a go!``
''Quack, damn you!''

It would behoove you to have *some* kind of anti-armor capability, as any army that is heavily mechanized (e.g., most Tau, some Space Marines, most IG) and/or can light you up with heavy weaponry and blast templates (e.g., same armies as before) will simply be unbeatable by you. At the very least, you will want to provide them with a few armoured targets to save your troops for a couple of rounds so that they can do what they do best. Which is, as you said, slaughter nearly anything in CC.
ninjabackhand: point and click, again, really? even after i give you an military term "shock tactic" you still call it point and click.

Lets revisit the options with this in mind...( assuming iI have no vehicule, and 40/50 gk+?))
1/ what would change :
against SM/ chaos / ok
orks, beserks: they may overide me Hth ( but lthey are generally low on vehicule, right ?)
( ork: I shoot the 6 +, beserks: ? hm.... ?? )
nids, : dont know for sure.. besides carnifex, can I deal easily with the small ones before the big come in ? what would you say ?)
necron : tryng to engage warriors Hth, to reach the 75 % level... but they can dissapear suddely from Hth thx to the "veil of time" ( no sure of the english translation) of the lord/ monolith ?
IG/ tau : quantity may be bothering... option: DS ( massively) to tight them ?
I do not feel like walking a good option...especially if they stay at the bottom of the 48 ' ??
2/ strategically, what would change ( if I have no vehicule, and 40/50 gk+?)
tying Hth " early" means cover/ screening for marching troops, isnt it ? so , one sacrificial "wide line"
3/ heavy weapon do not scare me so much, they a re just more effective, but only have one kill at a time ......ie Im a "denying" a large part of their usefullness
4/ approach : should I engage big or small target first ?
divide my force on two flanks, or a massive one sided march ? ( assuming something in the center of the table) ( to max the scrrening effects)
5/ If I have no vehicule, I have also a low capability against heavy armor.
12 is the limit for lucky psycannon ..;
6/ I usually field a shooty inquisitor with PC and 2x HB ( 1 mystic to detect DS)
is it still of any use ? ( why protecting my "back" , when all units are "equals', hence all sides "equal")
