Ok guys i know your sick of these questions but I need your advice. I wanted to make a BT drop assualt list to compliment my little brothers white scars list. We have 1000 pts and my main question is...
Since i need to have my Crusader Squads on the Ground should i Mount them both in LRCs or should i have them walking? Or one in a LRC and One in a Rhino/Razorback?
If you're just using 1000 pts, I wouldn't get a tactical squad ANYWHERE near an LRC. Since you need two troop choices, that's two LRCs for two tactical squads. WAY too wasteful use of points. I'd instead flesh out your crusader squads with neophytes. Cheaper and you can get a unit of 20 out of it. 20 marines rolling SM saves are more than capable of foot slogging it. Or if you're doing a drop assault, do a couple max load drop pod tactical squads with flamers to use as anti infantry, or multimelters to drop them at more heavily armored targets. Just stay away from an LRC in a 1000pt game is my advice. Save LRCs for your slower moving units, say if you had some terminators or whatnot.
Not as easy for the 20 man squads. First of all they will take marine saves if there are 10 and 10, but then you will have to remove your initiates and be left with the neophytes - not that good. The 20 man squad only works under certain conditions: take a reclusiarch with 3 cenobyte servitors and stick him in the squad. Then the lower armour of the neophytes will become majority and you will remove casualties from them, although on the lower save of 4+. On the plus side, your initiates will survive far longer and the unit will be much faster with the cenobyte servitors and the chaplain's crusader seals.
One rhino and one LRC is not a very good combination, as different strength AT weapons can be used to take both of them out in the same turn (ie. lascannons for the LRC and autocannons, which can't hurt the LRC, for the rhino). Either use 2 or more rhinos or a LRC and foot squads. Remember that 2 LRC in 1k points will set you back more than half the points value of your army, meaning that you won't have enough points to take anything else you might want. You won't have enough points to take the EC, a HQ and 2 full squads of initiates (without any neophytes). While 2 LRC in 1k points might throw some opponents off balance, especially if they don't have many AT weapons, it is a bit of a one trick pony.
Yeah stay away from the Land Raider Crusader. Since its drop army I would say all Drops but then your opponent is free to take objectives while your away, perhaps what should be done is have at least the Commander and his Sword Brethren (if you have any) and keep them on the table with a crusader squad. The rest then can drop.
If a 1000 points battle max out your crusaders and make sure you have power weapons. maybe a small squad of assault marines.
In small points battles the amount of marines can win you the battle.

First it depends which races you plan to fight alot of and it depends on how you set up your squads. Just like the guys said dont even THINK about using the LRC until you start playing 2000 point wars and beyond. And at 1000 try not to use terminators, they will eat up your points and just losing them will not be pretty. I recommend taking 6 troop choices and mix in neophytes into your squads. Use them as meat sheilds protecting your marines with heavy weapons or power fists. Use one more cc squad than shooters always. If you have 2 shooters have 3 close combat squads etc. Lastly dont over look assault marines or dreadnoughts, they will come in handy in a lot of battles trust me. Have assault marines with Frags, and 1 melta bomb so you can blow up any big vehichle that comes your way. For the dread it depends on your opponent, if he has lots of infantry keep the standard assault cannon, if he has tanks, take the twin linked lascannon upgrade. ALWAYS keep that close combat arm, you can edit it to have a heavy flamer or storm bolter and this upgrade once again depends on your opponents army. For an effective mix try an assault cannon// heavy flamer combo. The template is pretty good for close combat range and that close combat arm will have strength ten for a power fist! The assault cannon has rending but it can also take out a couple of infantry out so what ever you have near by can finish off the enemy unit. Learn Rightous Zeal and if you master it, have your crusaders take crusader seals. You just need at least one marine in a squad to have it, and if they do youll be able to advance heavy weapons deeper into enemy territory causing some serious problems for enemy units. Hope this advice is helpful for you.
I must say that taking heavy weapons in any Black Templar squad is quite a waste of points. You are trying to get into close-combat asap and firing your heavy weapons wastes your turns.
If you are to take heavy weapons, I might suggest taking them on vehicles, they can move and fire them; I would personally suggest the Land Speeder Tornado with Heavy Bolter and Assault Cannon.
For small games like 1000pts I tend to take many troops. How about 2 Chaplains(3 Servitors each), Emps Champ, and a total of 20 Initiates, and 15 Neophytes. Each squad has Power Fist and Meltagun to take out vehicles, or troops. Make one squad of 25(Emps Champ, Chap, Servs, Inits, Neos) and a squad of 18. This works wonders in small games, and it stomped my friends Terminators, Chaplain, Assault squad, 2 troops, and a Whirlwind. I ended up loosing about 12 Initiates/Neophytes overall.
Imperator Rex - Dei Castigator
Ok here are the rules i have to follow for this tourny. I need 1 hq and 2 troops and can have 1 elite, fast attack, and heavy. Then I have 1 floating slot so i can have 2 elites or fast or heavys. I was going to take 2 squads in rhinos. Drop chappy with sb terms, chump wil walk or be in rhino, and then drop dread. and other stuff i will take. I will have my list up soon.
Try this for your setup.
2 crusader squads
1 Dred in drop pod with a melta (tank bustity goodness)
1 or 2 if you have the points Assault squads (that your chaps can attatch to, just make sure to give the chappy a jump pack.)
For 1k pts should be a fairly good mix of units, versatile. I'd break it down further but I'm at work and my codices are at home. :/
This gives you...
1-2 Fast attack
That'll be right on with your tourney rules.
I woundn't take a dread in such a small game. You lose about 140 points with one lucky shot. And since it's going to be your only vehicle in the game you will lose it fairly quick to enemies AT fire. I would buy another Crusader squad with melta and a power fist.
