Welcome to Librarium Online!
I was wondering if anyone knows a good way to kill hammerheads.
I use a drop poding melta-gunner. That usually gets them unless I miss (which is just my luck).

Drop poding is helpful, if your opponent is foolish enough to not support his tank you might be able to get it with some melta equipt bikes or land speeders.
Other than that is just block all of the fring lines with your own devastators.

any dedicated anti-tank worth its salt can take one out without much trouble. It's guns can be dangerous but it's basicly only the same toughness as a predator, and we all know how easily they can be destroyed with some luck. I'd just point a pile of lascannons or missiles at it and watch it go poof.

id say it's alot different than a predator.
first it can be more than 48" away and still shoot. Then he usually has the upgrade which deducts 6" from your range.
Second you can only score glancing hits and probably reroll 4's which means it will only go down on a 6
Then your mobile tau opponent probably has 2 in 1000 pts
Yer a droppoding melta gunner would be good bu i think the best thing is a droppoding dreghnout!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! right in the back of his line. 2 dreds would be awsome. because of the hammers long 72" range howly moly thats allot the can just sit in the stupid corners of the board shooting shooting shooting they dont even need to moove ow my gosh their good.
just drop pod 2 dreds with lasscannons and missiles or you could keep the close combat wep to slater some tau later lol.
hope this helps.
I'd say forget the Lascannon. Drop a Dreadnought with a Multi-Melta near it. It's cheaper and MUCH more likely to kill the hammerhead than a Lascannon.
Also, they fall rather easily to assault cannon goodness. Last game against tau, dropped a speeder next to the hammerhead and rended it to pieces, never even got off a shot with the rail cannon.
Skimmers moving fast pre-empt the AP1 of the multi melta. Hence, multi meltas are not any better against skimmers then missile launchers.Originally Posted by Dark_Angels_Master

Efficiency VS Point Cost VS Ease Of Use - Your best bets:
1) Chaplain led Assault squad - 2 plasma pistols, powerfisted sergeant
2) 8 man Devastator squad - 4 missile launchers
3) Land Speeder Tornado - HB + AC
True true, but as Shas'o Vior'la Mont'yr was saying, if it is just hanging around not moving fast then the AP1 has an effect. Just thought I'd point that out.
What about deepstriking terminators? Because drop poded units cant attack on the same turn can they?
