Welcome to Librarium Online!
Last night I played a 1000 point battle against a friend of mine who was playing the IG. I was playing my Dark Angels army which consisted of basic troops(with heavy weapons), terminators, and a dreadnought.
Long story short...his Basilisk destroyed me in short order. What can I do to make his tanks a non-factor? Should I have used the termies deep strike ability to position them near the tanks? Would assult marines have been a good idea? Fast attack stuff?
As an aside, I was trying to stay away from using tanks in my own army but after last night I may need to rethink that decision.
Deep striking terminators are okay but risky due the massive numbers that comprise a Guard Army. A safer idea would be to Drop a Melta weapon near the basilisk. Assault Marines are good in general for Guard simply because they eat Guard for lunch, but Assault Marines are Infantry killers, so for fast attack, bike squadron with two Meltas and attack bikes with multimeltas. Don't forget the side of Basilisks are incredibly low so assault cannons can tear these tanks to shreds.
I also just thought of something, since you play Dark Angels use Attack bikes with Multimeltas, the Earthshaker Cannon can't punch through their 2+ armor.
against guard you need to get up close and use meltaguns. Since he won't risk a hit on his own troopers he will use his lascannons that are mounted on his tanks. Use CC to get near his tanks and then pop them with melta fire.
Maybe landspeeder tornado's. you might need to roll sixes in order to penetrate his front armour but if you can speed up his flank his basilisk is really worth it.
Don´t mess with the dicegod
Was his bassie behind cover and firing indirectly? He better be rolling 2d6 for scatter then. In a 6 turn game that is an average of 2 hits and 4 7" scatters.
If it was not firing indirectly, you should be able to get a lascannon on it.
- Vanilla Marine tac squads do horrible things to IG infantry when they assault. Assaulting makes his tanks useless since they can't shoot you.
- A Venerable Dread with TLL/ML and Tank Hunters generally kills 1 AV12/turn in my games.
- A Landspeeder Tornado is a good hunter. 4xStr6 shots with Rending and 3xStr5 shots against side armor gives you pretty good odds.
- The real tanks of the IG are the Russes, with AV14 on the front. Those require 3 things to defeat, Lascannons, Powerfists and Lascannons. Yeah, I know.
RecklessFable's Journey to Mediocrity (Painting an IG army)
I've been addicted to World of Tanks lately and neglecting my IG... But it is so... much... fun!
Counter IG with speed, i suggest landspeeders.
Zip over what ever its hideing behind, put it between you and the rest of the gaurd army.
Fire away, now youve got a dead tank blocking LOS to your skimmer, and youve stopped the IG from shooting you.
I recently lost 9 of 10 Crusaders to a Basilisk in one shot! Ended up taking it out with a Meltagun but not before I lost another 7 men. You have to get on it ASAP, however you want: landspeeders, assaulters, termi, drop pods pick one, and take it out quick!
Dark Angels Master was right when he suggested an attack bike with multimelta. They are imo by far the best ways to take out any armour against IG. If you have the slots, take two attack bikes and turbo boost them down the side and hit him where it hurts. Hardly anything can touch two separate 2+ invulnerable save attack bikes. Just beware of not getting too close so that he can assault you before you get off the shots.
