A friend of mine is playing Eldar and he wants to do an army where Warp Spiders (WS) are the troops choice/ bulk of the army. He also wants a farseer on jetbike with mindwar and a few falcons as heavy support. The main theme is everything can move really fast and can't be caught/ can jump away. The main question I have is how do I catch a large force of warp spiders? Rhinos wouldn't get close enough without being shot and then the WS would jump back so I couldn't assault. LRC is a little too expensive to take. Any ideas?:wacko:
first up warp spiders are elites so he can only field 3 squads of them, there also expensive as the minimum 5 man squad costs 110 points. So I guess the army will look like...
The warpspiders are not really a huge threat, its all the supporting units that will be shooting at you. Predator destructors with heavy bolters are quite good at taking down Vypers and any infantry he uses. Drop pod dreadnoughts and squads with meltaguns/plasmaguns should deal with anything if they land on target.
His idea of "fast" eldar isnt much different from what most other eldar players use. If you can deal with the vypers before they chew up your units then you wont have much trouble chasing down his infantry.

It's quite legal for him to take Warp Spiders as Troops, so long as he uses the Biel Tan Eldar list. They can take Aspect Warriors as Troops choices, which means that he could potentially take 6 squads of the zippy little buggers!
I think that you'll find that Land Speeder Tornado's with heavy bolters and assault cannons will be quite useful for hunting down his Vypers. Just be careful and make sure that they aren't shot out of the air by Warp Spiders. With their high-strength guns, they'll glance your Speeders on a 4+, which makes them very vulnerable. Drop pods will be quite helpful, as will Bike squads and Assault squads.
If you really want to take out the Spiders, don't assault them. Any good Eldar Farseer knows to give them withdraw so that they aren't stuck. They may have 3+ armor but they are still only tough 3, so they will still fall pretty hard if shot at enough. If you really want to kill them fast, use AP3 and lower.
Vypers only have armor 10. Going the assault cannon route is a good idea, but if you are low on these then use Lascannons. Its an auto-glance so long as you hit. That's about as simple as it gets.
Okay, Warp Spiders aren't that great, especially against Marines. They suck in close combat and weapons aren't so hot.

If you manage to get a squad of Assault marines into a WS squad, it is as good as dead even if it has Withdraw. A flying chaplain can cause unbelievable mayhem.
They cannot hurt anything with AV13 or more, so consider a heavy vehicle.

Hmm 2 shots apeice at SM level Bs wounding you on a 2+ with JsJ capability? They may not be at their best against SM but 10 of them with an Exarch are most likely killing 4 SM a turn, and then doing it again. Not bad from not ap3- guns.Originally Posted by Ferias1
