i know we're all fascinated by the whole "what's your favorite unit"-pole trend, but what is this decension in topic forums, i know i may not have posted in awhile but the reason is evident in the recent topics posted since i've returned, i know i may not be giving a solution but i am pointing out a problem which is this recent to previous past trend that has been reoccuring amongst the many threads and i would be shamed to see this happen to teh thread i check most, since i am a bit more avid on sticking to just the IG thread than i am to the others but they've seen the same as fro mwhat i've heard of in the #warhammerfun channel of mirc, so i im[plore something be done asside from cencoership or a drunk person, cause i'll let loose the bears of godless killing machines so help me god.
Do you think you should check your spelling before you post?
Sierra Company, 74th Noctan Strike Regiment - The Meatshields!
Ya it has been popping up alot, but that should be expected on a forum that is gaining new memebers daily. Alot of the less experienced will post what they think are new threads and thus the great chain of life continues. Don't fret it, the phase will pass and we will go back into the days of smart posting.
You expect too much of people Gandhi.
Its always going to be this way as long as there are lurkers to the boards who only pop up every once and while when they need something.
People don't bother to do research, they find it easier to just ask. Takes the work out of a problem.
Fifth Edition Saved 40k for Me. I love my ratlings and my cover saves!
Personally I'd just let the new people run around and post what they want, answer their questions and not grizzle at them. They're not doing an harm. So what if an old topic gets brought back up? Maybe opinions and views have changed, maybe this new member has something else to add. Even if they haven't these threads aren't appearing frequently enough to warrant as spam.
And if they do start posting genuine crap and flaming, then bad rep shall be applied and Mods shall excercise smiting abilities.
Other than that, I wouldn't worry about it.
... only triumph could turn pooing his pants into a good thing..
I don't mind people bringing up old topics that much, it usually saves me alot of typing to quote an old post or link to and old thread. ;>
Though of course, some threads seem to be reoccuring to often, it's been ages since I last read a 'starting IG, what should I get'-thread, because they're so common I end up just scrolling down to the bottom and click the next thread link.
But as it has been said, we who have been around for a long time will recognise old topics and ideas while those who haven't been around will think of them as new and as more new members constantly arrive they inturn will bring up the same old threads thinking they're new.
EDIT: On a side note, what does onegaishimura mean? Onegai is japanese for please I belive, while onegaishimas(sp?) is a stronger form of it, probably a more polite way to say please also, but I am not familiar with the -mura ending. Japanese is hardly one of my strong points. *Is stepping on unknown territory with this edit and has accually no idea of what I'm talking about.*
But when you think about it, a forum which holds over 600,000 posts and nearly 3,000 members is goin to repeat a few things.
But i see what you mean, what annoys me is people posting threads in the army list section with titles such as [1000pts]IM A NOOB!!!! or [1000pts] NOOB HERE!!! I really dont think its goin to matter if their a noob or not, and its just that word erks me its been used soooooo many times.
Folks, I have been around this site for a while (member number is 105 i think)
Yes questions pop up, but then so do new people, these can be people who have been playing for years and/or been on other sites or new blood to the game.
Sure they will ask questions that have been asked before, this is about learning. IF you only post for yourself, then this can be annoying (I already had that one answered), however, if you accept this is a community and everyone helps everyone else, then you have to accept the premis that the questions that you came up with when you started with your army. which you may have posted to get an answer or may have come up with the answer yourself, may well be occuring to others, why not give them the benefit of your acumilated knowledge and wisdom?
Also, people who dont play IG may well have questions that will help them.
Finally the big one is rules changes, whilst IG have not hugely suffered from this, look at SMs, the recent codex, changes from 3rd ed to 4th ed all effected their lists, questions asked previously and answered no longer had valid answers, this also effects IG (which IG commander has not had to face SMs?)
Sure some Qs are a little childish or can be easily thought out, others are asking for opinion, which will undoubtedly change over a period of time.
it is about judgement, someone posts up "I am new to IG, can someone create me a list?" - I am not going to create them a list, but I will help them - "take a look in the army list forum, make a list and put it up for critique" someone asks the age old question: "do I put anti tank weapons in my troop squads or consolidate them into anti tank squads?" then I will explain to them that this has been debated to death, there is no consistyant answer different people have different opinions, I will explain the pros and cons of both routes, without mentioning my prefered option (Elysians - what is a tank?)
use judgement, if you feel that someone is truely taking the mickey, then talk to them, 9 times out of ten they dont mean to be, they will appologies and in future post more sensibly which in turn only improves the quality of posting on the forum
Everything you have been told is a lie!
words never spoke truer.
Your right though, and every now and then i will need a clarification on a rule and just post it up. Have to remember that alot of users on this forum are alot younger aswell. That said, some of the youngens' knowledge will show me up anyday.

'negai' is a request (o is an honorific prefix), so 'Onegaishimasu' literally means 'I am requesting..'
I've never heard of a 'mura' form either.
