i really like the idea and look of Commissars but i cant see the use for them for what they cost
now i was going to use them for some if not all my JO in my up and coming army so what im asking is would you see a problem with this even if i tell my opponent about them?
you can also use this to post any good ways to use commissars if you like

I also like the look of the models themselves, if not the rules, (summary execution gets annoying!) But I have found a few ways to use Commisars effectively. Firstly, you must take the Ind. Comsr. Doctrine, otherwise you are looking at a HUGE point sink that may end up killing all of your officers. I like to put the Ind.Comsr. in a squad of Conscripts, as that negates their terrible leadership, while giving them a boost in either cc (power wpn/fist + pistol) or shooting, (storm bolter/plasma pistol)....Another idea is to put this guy in a Storm Trooper squad, raising their Ld. and giving them another plasma shot and pwr wpn in cc.
The usual layout is:
-marcharion cross? (sometimes)
comes in at usualy around 90-100 pts
(expensive for one model, so I usually take only 1
Again, without taking Ind.Commisar Doct., depending on how many officers you have, these models can cost well over the amount that they are worth.
Hope This helps
"Why me?" Gideon begged, falling to his knees.
He looked pleadingly at the Haemonculi who regarded him with a twisted smile. As the door slammed shut, Gideon could hear Vect's laughter echoing off the walls of the corridor beyond, the Dark Lord's voice carried into the torture chamber:
I like commies if I've got the room. I also like to run them in one of two ways.
1) Completely stripped with no extra weapons simply there to add the +L and a little extra firepower ie for Conscript toons
2) Decked out to the 9's with PowerFist and Powersword ready to kick serious A$$ in a command squad designed to intercept and counter attack.
Pretty much everything the above post mentioned.
Fifth Edition Saved 40k for Me. I love my ratlings and my cover saves!
I love Commissars, all my platoons have them and my conscript platoons are led by the sadistic S.O.Bs. I equip them with bolt pistols and powerweapons, in the conscript platoons I give powerfists, so he'll have 50 bodies to hide in till he can get a good punch.

If I am doing a mega battle, I use five Commissars, one usually armed for cc (power weapon, plasma pistol, refractor field, macharian cross, medalion crimson, bionics), and my four "cadets" (storm bolter, refractor field, bionics).... So that all my platoons have one of the ever lovable S.O.B.s in their command squad, while my Brig. General knows that failur isn't an option. That and besides, my commanding Commissar is a female, we all know how crazy they can be.

A female Commissar! Damn! I didn't even think about that!

The best use of Commissars I can think of is to make a assault road bump in the form of conscripts.
Total Points: 60
Thats a Ld 10 unit that can re-roll their leadership tests. Make a unit of say 30 conscripts. For 180 points you have a 31wound beast. That can be a tough cookie to break and if you manage to pull off a charge, the ammounts of attacks can put out can be fairly impressive.
Just remember that you need to keep the commissar in the middle and towards the back to keep him out of combat for as long as possible, if he dies the unit is going to run for the hills.

I'll like just using a single commie in my command squad, with Honorifica, and a powerfist, so you have a powerfist, with an extra attack (because of honorifica) that can't be singled out. I give my heroic office a power weapon, and it's a pretty effective counter charge unit, best for going after small groups, because they can either go for the officer with the power weapon, or try to wipe out the whole command squad to get to the commisar with the power fist.
Other than that, I'd just save my money and get more troops and heavy weapons.
