The rule book can. Page 25 to be specific.

To give a generic answer, they're saves that are (nearly) always allowed to be taken against wounds.

yes. the difference between an invulnerable save and a regular one is that you may make an invulnerable save in almost every instance, even against weapons that pierce your armor

Remeber you can't take an armour save, then an invunerable save. you can only take one. Usually your armour save is better, but if the weapon negates your armour save you would take the invnerable save instead.

    *looks at title*
Chortle! Dost thou knoweth of the save of Armour? Indeed thou doeth? Zounds! For then thy understanding of such artifices must spill to thy ken of the Save of Invulnerability!

If it says 'ignores armour saves', then if you have an inv. save, you must still have a save, right?

What's this doing in Space Marines in particular for? Why not in rules discussion or something?

C'mon the guy's 12, dont give him a hard time!

I'm guessing you dont have the rule book so the reference is probably no good for you.

When you get hit by a weapon that has an armour piercing value higher or equal to your armour save, you die without rolling an armour save.
Upsetting i know, BUT if your model has an Invunerable save you get to roll tha instead.

    For example.

You have a terminator, which has a 2+ save plus a 5+ invunerable save.

If he gets hit by a heavy bolter which is Armour piercing 4 you get your normal 2+ save

If he gets hit by a plasma gun which is Armour piercing 2 you dont get your 2+ save because it pierces 2+ armour. Instead roll a 5+ invunerable save.

There a other complications like instant death, where if a weapon's strength is higher or equal to your toughness you get no armour save or invunerable save!!!
One is not to question why, but to do and die.

Previous post wasn't to look like a hard time being given. The Chortle was at the later part of the post. I seem to make the wrong impression very often.

And I thought that Invulnerable saves worked against Insta-kill?
Anyway, there is one item in the army list to stop Insta-kill: the almighty Adamantine Mantle. Too bad only one per army allowed.

That's his post count, not his age.

If he doesn't have access to a rule book, then he shouldn't be playing the game. Even the Battle for Macragge is a decent substitute as it gives you everything you need to understand the rules of the game.

Instant Death and Saves are independant of each other. You're still allowed to take Armour and Invulnerable saves against attacks that cause Instant Death.

Hmmm, he is 12, Look at his profile......
At that age most people dont have £40 to spend on a rulebook when they are starting out, you pick up the rules untill you can afford to buy the book.

    True, the rulebook is expensive.

Josh, I reccomend you book yourself into a few beginner's sundays at your local GW. Its free, and they will teach you everything you need to know.
