Hey guys sorry if this should be in the army list. I was wondering what would be a good investment for my new DH army. so far my army looks like this.
I was thinking of getting a heavy squad of 4 psycannon and 1 justicar.
Well, the first thign you should buy is 4 blister packs of GK. This fills your squads out to 9, which generally I think is a better investment than 5. However, If you want to even play the army, buy the Brother Captain Stern model and use him as a Brother Captain HQ choice. After this, that rhino can't be used by the GK, so get some ISt with either meltaguns or plasma guns for it.
Brother Captain Stern
4 GK blister packs
2 blisters of kasrkin stormtroopers with special weapons(plasma and melta)
total cost- about $120 USDThis can be a good investment in larger games, but at an army this size, they tend to be a bit of a points sink. hold off on them until at least after 1,000 probably.I was thinking of getting a heavy squad of 4 psycannon and 1 justicar.
Et imperator Invocato Diabolus Daemonica Exorcist!
combine the GK squads to make 1 big squad - doesnt get killed as fast. then, get a squad of IST, and a Grand master. also, squad of 4 termies for a retinue. this works amazingly well for me, except i run a squad of IST in a chimera with flamers, but you could give them meltas, as all DH armies lack anti-armor.
Get 10 more grey knights. A grey knight hero, another dreadnought. some IST's, and more terminators. Get meltas and plama gun IST's. An LRC is great fun too. You might want to get some psycannons, maybe 2. At least one or 2 IST squads are good, one in rhino with 2x meltas and one foot slogging with 2 x plasma or grenade launchers.
The gold grey knight man. These are hardy men who like cheese.
Ever thought of how cheese was found?:
`` I say sah, the milk in this barrel smells foul!``
``Oooohhh, give it a go!``
''Quack, damn you!''

Next you definately need an HQ of some kind, I would check the recent thread about brother captains vs grandmasters and then pick which you would like to use...then decide if you are looking to get terminators at some point; if you think you will use them get the terminator box, if not get the stern model.
After that I would get some stormies to make use of the rhino and then fill up the GK squads, however if you are in a pinch for money I would just get the GK blisters and make full squads...
The most helpful thing for me when I was starting out was to look at what I liked. I took what I liked and made what I thought could be a competitive army. Then I posted it here and it got ripped to shreds.... But that was a Good Thing! Because the discussion of the units made their capabilities and limitiations -- and the overall strategy of the army -- clearer in my head. Saved me a lot of grief in the long run.
The DH are a very difficult army to play at small points levels, like you'll be doing at the beginning. So propose an army list that you intend to play, between 500 pts and 1000 pts (a reasonable target to hit with a modest investment), and see what the folks here say. It will help.
ninjabackhand: point and click, again, really? even after i give you an military term "shock tactic" you still call it point and click.
