I have an army based on stand your ground shut your eyes and hope for the best.

I need either something to cover my army or to go on assainating missions.

Which of the Elites would do this the best coz they all take a Doctrine point. And even if you take the ratlings you can only have 1 unit

Veterans... they can have 3 special weapons and one heavy. Thats alot of firepower, so they can cover your ass anytime you want. 3 plasma guns and a ML tend to scare ppl off ! For missions going on the attack 3 flamers will do the job, and put them in a chmera for the speed, and extra firepower.

you can also mix your army with grey knights terminators(5 termis + grandmaster will cost 500 pts) but they kick asses

Veterans - are great, though I have to say to 311 I would not equip them with flamers... what a waste of BS4. Plasmas and Autocannon will certaily scare people off.

Storm Troopers - Still kinda costly, but depending on the mission and your army they can be worth the extra points. On missions like Take and Hold infliltrate and deep strike come in handy.

Ogyrns - You'll get many opinions on these critters. I have been disapointed with them as while they wound marines, they get their armor saves and when the marines attack back 5+ isn't going to do much...

Ratlings - You'll also get many opinions on these. Sniper rifles are great against Wraithguards and Greater Deamons, other wise these guys with an even worse profile the Guardsmen should be left in the kitchen.

Enginseeers - they look great for about ten minutes. Then you realize that a plasma cannon isn't that great when a multi-laser instant kills your Techpriest and you lose your plasma cannon servitor, and unless your Leman Russ is destroyed why would you need to fix it? If it's immobilized so what, you need to be stationary to fire ordinance anyway, and if it's battle cannon is knocked off you still have a lascannon and two heavy bolters. For 95 Points (a fully equiped techpriest) you can get a Chimera, line squad, and almost a basilisk...)

    Hope this helps.

Thing is, with 3 flamers you can scare the crap out of bugs, and there instant hit offers security. For instance, I charged out of woods, to flame 3 land speeders. Only thing that could hurt them was the flamers, and the plasma pistol. PP missed. But I got two hits from each flamer...and managed to glance 1 per flamer. I wouldn't have charged out with say 3 plasma guns, because chances are 1-2 would miss. Oh well, my squad is all about the bugs.

Storm troopers or veterans, if your just looking for the firepower then veterans but for both firepower and staying power go for the storm troopers, plus deepstrike can always be fun

Alright im a big fan of vets. In fact I am making last chancers because its basically a whole army of vets. Look here you have BS4 which makes heavy weapons more realiable. They get three special weapons which means three plasma guns that will hit more often mind you. Can be mounted on the ever great chimera. So lets make a summery. Great shooting, Lots of choices, and moble. Not bad huh?

vets all the way as u can tool them up just how u want em and another thing if ur wuite into the modelling/painting side of things veterans can be very rewarding. Last Chancers are also v. good, thing is doctrines hav no effect on them which kinda sux. Kasrkin are reliable but with no hvy weapon thats not an efficient way of utilising their bs4. Then again u could make them hardened fighters and tool them up with ur command h.q and/or orgryns (sp.) this gives u a solid fighting line esp with their extra save and move and and fire weapons. Its entirely up 2 u but theres my biased opinion.

Couldn't have put it better. I can't believe how useless Techpriests are. I find it funny how the one in the codex on page 21 is illegal (it has at least 60 points of wargear.) Tis a shame, as the models look very sweet.

As far as Elites go, I always field Ogryns. Take 5, including a Bone 'Ead, an Independant Comissar, and a Chimera, and you've got Ld10, 17 wound killing machine for around 250 points.

Stormtroopers are good, but I prefer to take them as Troops (Grenadiers.) I'd rather have troops, as they deploy better in some missions ("Patrol" is one.)
