Welcome to Librarium Online!
If presumably there is only 1 gk grand master at any time, who is running all the gk outposts?
i think there sould be gk masters heading ea. outpost since if there were 2 or 3 or more bro.capt in each outpost who would call the shots?
should the gk masters stats fall somewhere between that of a bro capt and GM?
if so ...what would they be?
what would he cost?
From what little fluff I've read and absorbed here on LO, there is more than one GK Grand Master, but we don't know precisely how many. The Ordo Malleus is very secretive, and not organized like any other Imperial force, Space Marines included.
Unfortunately for us, there is no "middling" GK Hero HQ model choice. It's either the all-out combat monster -- the Grand Master, or the relatively humble Brother-Captain. I don't think fluff supports the existence of some kind of GK that, stature-wise, falls between the two, but even if it does, we don't have it. It's too bad BC Stern costs the same as a GM, essentially ... he could've filled that gap nicely.
There is one advantage of the situation being what it is: it really discourages us from spending points on frivolous wargear for our HQ characters! Since everything else is so pricey, it tends to keep us focused on solidifying our troop base rather than focusing on creating an uber-character.
ninjabackhand: point and click, again, really? even after i give you an military term "shock tactic" you still call it point and click.

I think there may be more than one Grand Master at any one time. In the book 'Grey Knights' from the Black Library in the first large battle against Ghargatuloth 3 Grand Masters lead the battle on Khorion IX. What you described sounds sort of like a Chapter Master as there are only one of those in each space marine chapter.
I guess the GM's would act as a sort of council for the chapter. As for the outposts, I think there only base of operation is the moon of Titan.
Give that book a read, it's really good!
My understanding is that there is one Grandmaster that sits on the inner conclave of inquisitors. He is our chapter master, though he isn't named. Next are the Grandmasters that we can use. They our or masters, librarians, and chaplins all rolled into one. Then we have our Brother captains, who are capable of leading our troops, and have done some heroic things in battle (which is what makes them a GK hero), but have not focused their powers yet, and not gained the rank of grandmaster, but hopefully one day.
It may be entertaining, but don't use it as a basis for fluff. That book is riddled with so many holes in both the plot and in the author's interpretation of the setting...Originally Posted by Justicar_Alric
That said, it IS correct on this one case: multiple GM's, one of which is given the title of Chapter Master and also sits on the Inner Conclave of the Ordo Malleus (but this is more of an honorary seat than anything else, a nod from the Inquisitors to their Chamber Militant)Not to nitpick (or rather, TO nitpick, since thats what I'm doing :shifty: ), but all officer ranks act as Chaplain and Librarian as well as commander for their subordinates. A Justicar is the spiritual advisor for his squad as much as a BroCap is the advisor for his terminators. Grand Masters are more of the Chapter-wide advisors, leaving the regular stuff to the lower ranks.Originally Posted by nichodemus10
There is more than one GM. But along with that the codex says that there is usually one on the Inquisition council, which implies that there can be more than one. Also I have never seen anything that has said that the one (or more) on the council is the Chapter Master, wouldn't the Chapter Master be with the Chapter, probably on Titan.

There are several grey knight grand masters. As for the middle one, he will not exist and I have not heard of a master in fluff. I imagine he would cost around 100 points, have ws and bs 5, he would have one less attack and I dont know what else, we do need something like that though...
The gold grey knight man. These are hardy men who like cheese.
Ever thought of how cheese was found?:
`` I say sah, the milk in this barrel smells foul!``
``Oooohhh, give it a go!``
''Quack, damn you!''

thanks all cleared up
just wishfull thinking
There are Grand Master and the High Grand Master.
Have any of you read the Dan Abett book Horus Rissing in which their is a Mournival.
A wise council of the best 4 Captains of the legion which would work very well with the Grey Knights as the Grand Master's advise the High Grand Master who would spend most of his time on Titan or Terra with certain councils.
The GK should have a leader that is better than the BC with 1 more wound and 1 more Initiative, something like a intermediate between a GM and BC possibly a Master or a Master Captain.
Posibly around 100-110 pts with a force weapon, Storm bolter and a suit of Terminator armour and up to 60pts worth of upgrades
