I plan to buy some new assault termies for HQ conversion (Master, Chaplain, Librarian) and I hesitate about weapons which I should use for models.
I have some variants, please rate it and tell me yours opinion.
1) Power weapon, combi plasma - quite cheap, could be attached to deep striking assault cannon command squad to do some damage after teleporting with combi rapid fire and next turn kill some models with PW in high inic. Disadvantage is no CC attack bonus for combiweapon
2) Twin lightning claws - cheap close combat variant, 2LC grants bonus attack and rerol to wound, also could go with AC command but couldnt shoot.
1) Crocius + power weapon - gets extra high Inic. CC attack and ussual bonuses for charge, has no shooting ability, but propably will be in LRC with some assault squad (6 termies, 4LC,2TH)
2) Crocius + power fist - Extra attack and choice to use PF against hard opponent, but will be more costly.
1) Force weapon + combiplasma, same advantages as 1) master, but he propably can better shoot with psychic powers than weapon
2) Force weapon + power fist - expensive but universal, close combat monster, propably with weil of time and some shooting psychic power (or fear of darkness?), could deep strike, ride in LRC or just have 2AC command and be shooty countercharge
It depends how big the game you're playing is. In a small game i would just take a Chaplin with a BP. In larger games I have my chaplin in termie armor and PF. I would also take a master in termie armor with LCs with an attached squad of assault termies.
- Small games (750 - 1000pts) Chaplin + BP
- Medium games (100 - 1500pts) Chaplin + BP + command squad (paired weapons)
- Large games (1500pts<) Chaplin + PF + termie armor + attached squad of assault termies
I love my Chaplins. I am a big fan of the master as well, but the chaplin will always be number 1! :w00t:
Black Templars 3000 points
Tau Empire 1750 points
Tyranids 1500 points
Hordes of Chaos *Coming soon*
I plan it for larger game 1500-2500 and I want HW in termie armour, but tactical uses could be different --- deep strike shooting, counterchage, RLC rush...
Libbiy with FotD or FotA
Use the psychic power on the turn you land and every consecutive turn. Units like this DS, shoot, shoot again, and charge, so you may want to equip him for close-combat.
Counter charge/LRC rush:
Chappy with crozius/power weapon (maybe thunder hammer)
On charge, the chaplain has the best bonuses for himself and the squad. The thunderhammer may be expensive, but necesary if the rest of the unit has lightning claws. Don't equip a chaplain for shooting, as he is supposed to be charging into combat.

I don't use either of these guys. The only good thing about them is that they are cheap and have high leadership. As such it is better to have them on the table from the outset so you can take advantage of this. In the DA we give our Grand Masters the Sword of Secrets- your chosen Chapter might have some uber-weapon too. The only thing I would do is give them a combi-melta or plasma to take advantage of their higher BS. Twin LC are expensive and if you go this route better to go with a CC-orientated Chaplain or Libby.Originally Posted by razzI don't think the extra PW is worth it for the Chaplain, and the PF strikes last which isn't what you want on a character (having said that a Thunder Hammer is useful sometimes against high Toughness Monstrous creatures). Just leave him as he is 'straight from the box'. If you have the points a comb-melta or plasma would take advantage of his higher BS.Originally Posted by razzWhat you do with your Libby depends on what power or combination of powers you take:Originally Posted by razz
FotA- no need for a shooting weapon, use a storm shield instead. Possibly PW for extra attack. Don't deep strike.
FotD- no need for a shooting weapon, use a storm shield or a PW. Only works against low Ld armies.
VoT- shooting weapon but preferably a power weapon would be best (get to reroll everything so take your pick)
MoH- extra power weapon for this, useful even if you convey this power onto the squad sarge/ or another attached character.
Vod- I've never used this. But it is a shooting power so no shooting weapon required. Storm shield or power weapon here.
Libbys are expensive enough without burdoning them with too much extra kit. I certainly wouldn't use a powerfist on one though too slow and your attached squad will have plenty anyway.
Hope this helps

I really don't see the point in putting a Chaplain in Termi Armor because he is geared for Close Combat, and so should be on bike or have a jump pack to make assaults. A chappy with rosarious really doesn't benefit much from Terminator Armor anyway. He still has the same Inv save and can get the extra attack with a 1 pt bolt pistol or CCW. Even if you really thought you needed the 2+ regular save, you could put artificer armor and a bolt pistol on a regular chaplain and still spend 4 pts less than giving him Terminator Armor and Storm Bolter.
I think a basic Captain/Master with Termi-Armor, Storm Bolter and PW is a great stand-alone HQ for any game of 750 pts or more. He shoots well, he fights pretty well, and he lends his leadership to every other SM unit on the table which comes in very handy for an army that prefers to stand and shoot.
As for Librarians, I don't use them, but I suppose they could use Terminator Armor for the cheap Invulnerable save and extra attack. Not so sure that it's the best kit for them, though, since they really specialize in hunting large monsters and tough characters (which I prefer to shoot!) and they more often than not need the invulnerable save of an Iron Halo more than Terminator armor....
I'm confused, I havent played 40k in a long time, but why would you pay to give the chaplain a power weapon, when the crozius already is, and a bolt pistol will give you the same +1 attack?
He's coming for you...
you cant have a bolt pistol in terminator armor
Take life seriously, its lethal.
I use a termi lib with FOTD and a stormsheild, 1 searg with pw & sb 1 termi with sb&pg and 2 termies with ac&pg.
DS them within range of several firewarriors or similar and let rip, tends to work verywell, especially if you opponent likes to set up on the table edge.
Also feild chaplain, with either the same or 4 termies with LClaws in a LR drive up the field and ram someone then hop out and rip them up (remember you can assault from a LR!)
Get a librarian (Epistorlary), termie honors, armour, power weapon, familar (+1 inititive rocks!) and give him might of heros, and fear of the darkness. Get him, and stick him in an assault termie (believe me, it's worth it...) squad, and deep strike them. slaughter, let me repeat that, SLAUGHTER anything that you want, and scare off anything you can't/don't want to fight.
Good luck with the converting dude.
P.S. if you want to make him even more crazy (and obcenely expensive), give him an adamantine mantle, or an iron halo (it is really expensive, but the look on an enemies face can be priceless:w00t: )
