As I was playing this past weekend, we had a discussion of Codexs going on and someone asked how old the current Space Wolves Codex was. I thought this was a bit unusual until the fellow said that it has been at least 3 years since the current SW codex came out.
It sure would be nice if they got a codex that did not require you to have the regular Space Marine codex as well.
However with the projects I heard about at gamesday I guess it might be a while befor the Wolves of Ferris get a new codex.
Yeah, the wolf brethren of Fenris do need a new Codex, however Alien Hunters, Eldar and Blood Angels are the Codexes that I know for a fact are coming before it. Also I am pretty sure that of all the Space Marine extra Codexes, Space Wolves are keyed to be after DA. Of course it would be really nice to have a new one, but until then players shouldn't be too inconvenienced by having Codex: SM too. After all it is a good strategy to have a copy of every enemy armies Codex.

Well I like our current codex. 2 power fists per squad (or 3 in the case of 11+ Bloodclaws) and the grey hunter packs can take 2 plasma pistols as well. The only thing we really need the SM codex for is the HS and FA anyways. The only thing I would like would to be able to take are veteran skills (like furios charge).
While we're on the subject how do you think GW will approach giving veteran skills to the Space Wolves? I assume Wolf Guard bodyguards will have the same options as normal veteran/command squads although infiltrate may be overpowered for the Wolves given their excellent hand-to-hand capabilities.
I'm mainly wondering about adding veteran skills to Long Fangs. They already cost the same as veteran marines did in 3rd edition and I think they warrant it, given their age, but I can't see Furious Charge being that useful for a heavy weapon squad. I think Tank Hunters would be a good option given that they are sometimes be the only long range anti-tank the Wolves have. The thing I'm most interested in is Infiltration though. A heavy weapon squad that deploys after the opposing army AND can essentially pick their spot on the battlefield? Yes please!
Just some thoughts. Let me know what you think.
You don't have to expect for the wolves to see the light until 2008 I'm afraid, the eldar, DA and orks are the next codices, what comes after that is stil unkown and those that do know won't speak, this does carry us well into 2007.
