hello, i am considering playing guard and i was wondering what people think of the mechanized doctrine? i know i would be heavily outnumbered but i will not be outgunned!
at 1000pts or less they will just be regular guard but higher it will be mech (maybe 5-7 chimeras) and some leman russes, a hellhound maybe. the infrantry squads will have plasma guns and hopefully i will have some mounted vet squads with melta guns
i know tanks arnt too strong but the sheer number of them could be effective. i have never played with an army like this but hopefully someone can give me some advice
second question: if i where to play mech infrantry do you think carapace would be worthwhile? its alot of points but i think it would be worth it when i need to bail out of tanks and save my plasma gunners form themselves :shifty:
Well mechanised are great, dont worry. What they lose in numbers is made up by the powerful weapons mounted by your tanks, so it is really all good. Plus with the machanised, you have speed and extra shielding for your men, which means they last longer. This is a great doctrine and I play my list with it as well.
awsome, i wonder why noone plays mech.
what do you think of carapace armor?
Well, it is personal preference really.
I don't use carapce personally because all you want to do is have your men pop in and out of the chimera at all times, never staying too long out in the open, and the chimera shields you. Now if it is destroyed, that is pretty much the end of it anyways, as you men may have suffered casualties and whatever hit the chimera would want you now too!

Honestly, Warhammer is expensive. No other way around it. Eventually, you jsut have to forget about the money, and just focus on the army. If you focus on the money, you'll get nowhere, because everything is so overpriced.
very true, i dont worry about the money.
and thank you two for replying so quickly.
No problem, just remember to rep us lol j/k.
Any other questions, I would be glad to help to pay back my debt for my help.
Hi! I just wanted to let you know that I actually play with Mech and Carapace doctrines.
I have had success with it. The reason that I chose it is, while it is true, a line squad with weapons and chimera cost 180ppts, their survivibility is greatly enhanced between the armor, extra fire power and carapace's enhanced saving throw. I have a army list posted in the army list section if you want to check it out, under 396th Belruvian Heavy Infantry.
The idea I used was not ap weaopns but a mass number of shots. Each turn I lay down around 42 str6 shots. that wounds MEQ types pretty easily, and if I hit only 50% pf the time, that is still 21 armor saves, which will kill a lot of MEQs. Add to that all my Heavy Bolters and 2 battle cannons... a lot of dead paople every turn.
My list, however, is very weak against enemy armor, bu tI am working on that, but that is just me. Any other list could easily be fixed for that. I am just saying that I have had success with it and very happy about it.
*NOTE* Do not sacrifice men with this army though! My list only hase 41 infantry models!

interesting..... how would you recomend dealing with enemy armor? melta armed vets seem ideal. but thats only in bigger games
