    noobie questions for i.g.

im thinking of starting a guard army (previously marines but there are too armies of them around for my liking) and ill really like to include a vostrayn platoon under the rules can i ally them to a cadian army so i dont have to buy an entire army of vostrayns and have them interminglied with cadians? since they have different doctrines is it allowed? or would i have to use them all under the same doctrines?

and a few questions in terms of army list:
is it worth it taking vox casters for your infantry squads or not really?
are veterans worth the points or do they just get shot to pieces as soon as your opponent figures out they are bs4...?
are hellhounds as good as they seem which is preety sweet but lots of things look nice on paper that arent so great during a game...

Damn right it is! I don't know anyone that doesnt take them for all their squads, and for that amount of points, who wouldnt. MUST take a Master Vox aswell, cause come on, who wants only one unit to stay and fight?

bout the hellhounds, i dont feild any just yet...so sorry, i cant really answer that question for you, like wise the veterans.

    Hope this helps

Umm, ya he meant BS4. He was talking about Hardened Veterans. I say they are worth it, but will need suitable protection. Maybe mounting them in a chimera or keeping them close to your other squads to blend them in.

Also, no you can't mix the Vostroyans with cadians when it comes to doctrines. The models can be mixed no problem, but your only allowed one set of Doctrines per army my friend. Hellhounds are pimp! They have nice stats, srmour AND can lay down some nice damage on infantry in cover or large groups like Orks, Nids or other IG. However for just 10 points more you could have a Bassilisk with indirect fire which can kill infantry AND tanks if absolutely needed.

my opinion on the vox netowrk, if you take close order drill and use your junior officer properly you get 9 leadership anyway for any squads within 12", and all your squads get one more initiative as well. some will argue that this forces you to set up your models so that a blast template will kill them all, but face it a guard army has more models than any other army and we usually end up clumping our units just for the ease of moving them around so...

Incorrect I'm afraid, the bonus only applies when the unit's own LD is used.

However I do agree that using Officers is far more effective than a Vox network.

Veterens are the most popular elites choice and rightly so, they're a good deal.

    Hellhounds are excellent tanks.

Veterans are good units, if you take doctrines one of the first should be veterans allowing you to field more than 1 squad.
I also love the hellhound, great anti-personnel unit.
I also wouldn't use vox-casters, i prefer to use veteran sergeants, ok it is 1 point more and only Ld8, but it means you don't have to buy a master-vox for your hq, so you actually save points for other cool things.

Thats not a bad idea actually, using Vostroyans as well as Cadians. You could use Vossy models for the more "important" squads in your army, like officers and vets etc. The cadian plastics could easily be painted to look fairly ornate.

    Good luck.

Hell hounds are great, as are vets if. You can use vets as either a fire support base or a suicide squad. Vox can go either way, but I don't use it. Oh and welcome to the Imperial Guard.

    One quick questiona bout Hellhounds:
Should I take 1 hellhound or sentinels up to the same points cost?
