how do you fight againt the "daemon bomb" (D tactic that chaos can use? i've played against a chaos player and she uses a khorne army with a butt-load of khorne beserker daemons. (i'm also guessing that it would work equally well with slaneesh daemonettes, as hot as they are :w00t: )
for those who don't know what the DB tactic is (to the best of my knowledge of chaos):
1) chaos lord/ daemon prince/ icon bearer comes charging up the field right to the enemy lines
2) CL/ DP/ IB then calls down a butt-load of daemons and they charge the enemy on the turn they are summoned. this affectively means that shooty armies are lost, like tau and gaurd. it also means that my black templars can't charge and do some awesome damage.
3) the daemons chew through your lines and there's little you can do.
i have tried the following to stop the "bomb" from "going off"
1) try to shoot down the CL on bike before they get to me. it usually gets to me with at least 1 wound left and then i am toast since it can still summon daemons
2) i've tried to counter-charge the daemons once they hit the lines but they are just too strong for me to take down. i loose too many marines before i can mount a good counter-charge
3) similar to 2, i have a squad as bait out the front of my army. once that squad is dead i then try to pump as much bolter rounds into the daemons before they charge me.
3 has been the most succesful but it's still not that great, i usually loose more often than win.
anyone got any ideas?
Black Templars 3000 points
Tau Empire 1750 points
Tyranids 1500 points
Hordes of Chaos *Coming soon*
I've only gone agaisnt this stuff with deathwing, and all I do is charge the crap out of him because I have better assault units. I have arock hard HQ in a Land Raider supported by other Land Raiders to keep them alive, and then I get them into assault. Having 3 HQs in terminator armour in one squad is really expensive but if you can keep them alive until they get into combat right where combat is the fiercest, they will run out of stuff to kill real fast.
Keeping some assault terminators behind your lines with furious assault is a great counter charge because fuirous charge lightning claws is very deadly.
Some land speeder tornados would be good because they can kill daemons quickly and are difficult to kill in an assault.
Haha, be glad that you're not fighting the Siren Bomb. That's even more annoying...
A Daemon Bomb can be beaten fairly easily. Shove a unit in front of the rest of your army, just like you have been and make sure to keep at least 7-8 inches away from your bait unit with the rest of your army. Once the Daemons kill that bait unit, unload on them with your entire army. Use Predators with autocannons and heavy bolters, Land Speeder Tornadoes with assault cannons and heavy bolters, long range bolter shots, plasma guns and the like. At this point, there shouldn't be much left, so any good counter attacking unit (like a Chaplain led Assault Squad with Furious Charge) should be able to mop up the remainder.
I've also seen an icon bearer on a bike. They turbo'd first turn, survived a round of shooting, spit out their demons, and got into an assault themselves. It was ugly. The other player (I think he was Tau) lost alot of units after that.
The only thing you have going for you is that they have to be summoned before the movement phase begins. So, if you know which unit the demons will be summoned by, you can do your best to stay far enough away and shoot the crap out of it/him. If you've got a winged or fleeting lord or prince coming after you that can be difficult. You have to watch out fot the icon bearer also, as they are at least an aspiring champion, and can do some pretty healthy damage themselves. Or unhealthy, depends on which side you're looking from.
I would be interested as to what others have done to combat this also. I've run into this several times and didn't much care for it, and like C'Tan, I would like to come out of those types of situations with more of my guys standing than demons.
Why not take a unit of grey knights or two to counter-charge the daemons? Or act as bait - the only negative thing is that the daemons will arrive back at the board - but that's through the enemies deployment zone and it shouldn't prove that dangerous...
GKT's would make mince meat out of most demons and their special rules only make it better.
One realy evil thing to do is get an inquisitor lord and an assassin. Give the inquistor a very shooty retinue (thats 2 heavy bolters 1 plasma cannons most times) with all the bells and whistles, like sages.
Next equip the inquisitor with the sanctuary psychic power (prevents demons from getting close) and procede to shoot the crap outa them^_^
As for the icon bearer the assassin should easily be able to deal with him.
Very very annoying if you stick this guy in front of a wall of tactical marines. Demons shouldn't survive for long outside CC.
"Heresy is like a garden weed, it won't stop feeding until you... BURN THE WHOLE DAMN GARDEN WITH A FLAMER, BURN IT, BURN IT TO HELL!!!!!" "Is there a wittle puppy in the garden? ITS A DAEMON! BURN IT!"
Maybe a vindicare assasin to snipe out his CL or luitanent. Since the luitanent only has 2 wounds and you can target him he will be an easy target.Originally Posted by bald inquisitor

Vindicare and possibly a Lance strike?
Then just make a single meat sqaud of the smallest storm trooper sqaud you can get with the most Grey Knights waiting for them. Don't forget to use at least one Dreadnaught, they will be a powerful tool against the swarm.
Post your army lists in the ARMY LIST section! Not that hard!
The funniest thing I've seen was a Khorne player who took two bike squads with icon bearers and had 3 squads of bloodletters, a bloodthirster, and a daemon prince in his tournament army. He squared off with kroot merc list who promptly infiltrated and beat the unholy bejesus outta him in 1 turn courtesy of their totem that lets them reroll first turn dice. The deamon prince was swamped with a bazillion kroot and managed to last a whole 2 assault phases. All of his deamons stayed in the warp playing cards during the slaughter.
It depends on two things: Your army make up and his method of daemon delivery.
If he's fielding a single lord with icon and the turbo boost right into your face strategy, you should have no problem defeating this.
Even if it is a squad, they usually don't number more than 5 bikers.
As suggested, volume of shots since turbo boost grants the invul save.
The method I prefer is this: Turbo boosting doesn't grant the invulnerable to close combat attacks, so powerfist him dead.
I used to use a pair of jump packer squads symmetrically placed so they can reach anywhere he turbo boosts to. And surround and pound him starting turn 1. If he hides the first turn and swoops up the second turn, still. surround and pound that icon. A few squads of daemons is no problem for an army, its when they all start to come out that it becomes really scary. Daemons are tough, and scary but they generally have a crappy save(even if it is a invulnerable) except for blood letters. Create a really big dogpile all around the icon until its dead, then mop up what made it on the board.
Remember that the summoning is similar to deep striking, the daemons need somewhere to come down. if you completely surround the summoning unit with your units. Barring a great scatter, the daemons coming in will just die. Keep that one unit tied up with 2 units and the rest take up position in circles all around it to block off summoning points.
