I'm considering starting a new army, so I have been trying to gather as much infomation as possible about each army. And so far i have look at SM and Ork and a bit of Necrons. I like having decent troops so I was wondering what IG had to offer in the way if basic troops. I don't know much about them yet because I usually play SM or Orks in combat.
Ig troops are good but only when there is lots of them.
I watched a snail crawl along the edge of a straight razor. That's my dream. That's my nightmare. Crawling, slithering, along the edge of a straight... razor... and surviving.
Yes you need lots of IG troops, lots and lots of them. If you don't feel like painting 45+ regular soldiers, then it's not the army for you. heh.
My personal opinion is that IG troops, point for point, are the best troops in the game. You get lots of them with decent weapons and they can all have heavy weapon upgrades and stuff. I love playing IG personally.
The thing is for the cost of 12 Necron warriors you get a platoon of infantry (25), with 3 heavy weapon and potentially 4 special weapons. Thats what really got me to stop playing Necrons and start up IG. It's also alot of fun when your opponent knocks out a section and has this smile on his face..to which you smile back and tell him that it doesn't matter !! Certainly not something you say with an expensive infantry squad. Its sweet too, when you swarm an objective...make the bugs envious !

Well, the bottom line is guardsmen suck. But an army of guardsmen rocks, becuase you have so many of them.
IG is a hard army to play, but a fun one. (Big tanks and loads of infantry, what more can you want?)

You have ot happy that heavy weapons have 9 wounds protecting it. Thats pretty cool. I dont mind the stats for guardsmen just the lasgun that gets under my skin. You need alot of them or really really good rolling to do the same damage as bolters would.
