As you all know, the Cadian Shock Troops box does NOT come with plasma guns as a special weapons choice. Have any of you converted a unit (like a grenade launcher, flame througher, etc.) into a plasma gun succesfully? Do any of you have any ideas how to do so? I'm looking to save a couple bucks, instead of having to buy the $12 blister.

Search function. This question has been answered repeatedly. Keep it in mind for future reference. The cheap and dirty way I converted some was to use an exact-o knife and trim the magazine and barrel off a bolter. Then I'd take an extra plasma pistol and cut off the head of it, the part that has that distinctive "plasma" look on the barrel. Then glue it to the bolter where I trimmed off its barrel. What you end up with is a more streamlined looking bolter with a plasma nozzel. Its not the most beautiful conversion ever but it does effectively represent a plasma gun.

Check the first post of that. It has the way I make mine. They arn't very pretty but they work out pretty well.
Most plasma gun conversions work by attaching the end of a plasma pistol onto a different gun. To get all these excess plasma pistols, trade or buy them from a SM player who should have a few if he has ever bought a Assault squad.
