I am planing on fieldning a devestator squad with my BA force that will be mounting three multi-meltas and a veteran sergeant with PF. This squad will be mounted in a rhino and will have the role of a standard tac-squad (just with more heavy fire-power).
Anyone tried this? How did it work?
Will you be able to shoot the meltas the turn you disembark?
Only two passengers can fire from a rhino right?
Or did you mean meltaguns?
no - no one with multi-melta will be able to fire if the rhino/squad moves.....but there will only be two or three MMs the rest bolters (10-man squad)
I haven't tried it, but I really wouldn't.
Mulit-Meltas with thier short effective range and inability to move are not a good option. Using the Rhino will most likely stop you shooting for 2 turns.
On the other hand, I love my Multi-melta Attack Bikes, they can move 12" which is excellant, they're small and nippy. They can turbo-boost for added survivability and speed and almost always get the chance to zap a tank. In one game one of mine bagged both a Predator and a Vindicator, not bad for 80pts. 3 ABs with MM would cost 240pts, less than a 10 man Dev with MM's and a Rhino.
Every time you read this sig: a fairie dies!
Save MultiMeltas for Bikes and Dreadnoughts
Think of it as a tactical squad mounted in a rhino and instead of a special weapon will have another heavy weapon. I agree that Attack-bikes are really great - however I need more wounds in my army - and I just loved the devestators with two melta variant.
Doesn't this work at all? I agree that maybe the seven bolters won't come to use - but still, it can be good in different ways?
Youed be better off with a bike squad with just a melta gun - good anti-tank and it aslo has good anti-horde firepower
"Hey sarge, this lasgun is heavy. I wish we had something lighter."
FF7: ABOUT RANDOM BATTLES
This is just me but if I was going to field MM Devs then I would Infiltrate them with
a Traight army. Or for folks like you and me who play BA I would rather Drop them
than run them up the field in a rhino. Some people don't like the Idea of drop podding
Devs but I have seen it done before with plasma cannons and heavy bolters. The squad
got the S#$% shot out of it when it landed but that's what the extra marines are for.
Then the other guy lost 8 of his 10 Chaos Termies. Not bad trade, huh?
1. Why bother giving your sergeant a power fist. you might as well just wast the 30 odd points it costs and give is to a vet squad or tac squad who might actualy use it more efectivly.
2. why have 3 heavys when you can have 4?
3. Get some meat shields in their.
4. i would drop pod them. Because if their transport blows up you will have like a 200 odd pt squad sitting in the middle of the b-field saying kill me kill me.
5. Drop podding can get you within 1 inch of the enemy not bad at all.
Hope this helps.
A WISE MAN LEARNS FROM THE DEATHS OF OTHERS
the multi melta has the same effective range of a bolter when firing at maximum range. it seems to me you could use this squad effectively, sending them up a flank to some nice cover, settle in, and blast away, their short range wouldn't draw fire, you'd just have some added oomph to your 24" bolter barrage. just my 2 cents though
Space Marines are the gateway drug
