The similarities? Add more if you like
Stormtroopers-Look similar to Star Wars stormtroopers, have the same name as both Wehrmacht stormtroopers and Star Wars ones.
Basilisks-German artillery guns
Destroyer Tank Hunter-German tank hunter
Chimera-Modern armoured cars
Rough Riders-Mongolian Keshiks
It's pretty clear around the net that most IG models are based on real historical war units.
Chuck Norris wouldn't stand a chance against Tana Umaga.
That's why there's such a high apeal for them.
They're so similar to modern days, it's great.
one word: Commisars. Thats a nice soviet russian tie right there. Not to mention the noton that foot troops are expendable.
Gargrimz Green Deff
W:10 D:4 L:5
Storm bolter = M249 LMG or Ultimax 100 (not in looks but in purpose)
Heavy Bolter = M60 GPMG (not in looks but in purpose)
Autocannon = Browning M2 HB (not in looks but in purpose)
Mortar = Mortar (duh!)
Grenade Launcher = Armscor MGL
Then the Missile Launcher looks like an old Panzerschrek (sp?) with the big shield for the gases.
2000pts Orks 4-2-1
vostroyan 1st born=cossaks (just in look)
death korps= my friend (ww I and II buff) said they looked like something german, just wasnt paying enough attention to remember exaclty what.
catachan= us/french in vietnanm or rambo ofcourse
im sure there are more.
"Hey sarge, this lasgun is heavy. I wish we had something lighter."
FF7: ABOUT RANDOM BATTLES
If by basse you mean basilisk, then you must be blind. It looks nothing like it.
BURN THE HERETIC!
KILL THE MUTANT!
PURGE THE UNCLEAN!
The light at the end of the tunnel is an incoming freight train.
You mean the kasrkin models or the stormtrooper ones..Stormtroopers-Look similar to Star Wars stormtroopers, have the same name as both Wehrmacht stormtroopers and Star Wars ones.
The stormtroopers remind me far more of modern riot police in the style of their armour than star wars stormtroopers, though the arm padding is very unusual. Even in the military, most body armour doesn't protect the arms much.
The kasrkin I can see I slightly more, but their heads are wrong.
The link to wehrmacht stormtroopers is a little off, wehrmacht stormtroopers were a paramilitary group who were disolved (with guns) early in the nazi regieme. They didn't wear big armour or even fight real combat.
A rhino looks a lot like an American family of APCs, the name of which I forget.
The turret of some of the leman russ variants (even the base model has a passing resemblance) look a little like that of a world war 2 Tiger tank.
death korps are like world war 1 infantry. The helmet spike and germanic naming tradition suggests they're german based.
With a few exceptions, these similarities seem to be purely visual. Valhallans, for example, are presented as hugely religious (Soviet indeed..) Catachans look like US troops in vietnam, but their culture is very different and in many ways they're more like jungle tribesmen.
Here's an idea, without intending to hijack the thread into a loathesome poll.. what real life or fictional uniforms would you like to see parodied in the Imperial Guard?

Chimera looks and functions almost exactly like a BMP up to and including the ability to carry a songle shot anti-tank missile, amphibious, the firing ports on the side for infantry, and the top hatch they can also shoot out of.
The basilisk looks more like the King Kong (and ungodly US 203mm artillery piece from the cold war).
The Leman Russ is one of the I'll give credit for being original as I've really never seen anything like it.
The turret design off the predator is from the German Leopard series of MBTs.it's the M113, the most widely used APC on the planet right now. The razorback reminds me of the ones fitted with 20-30mm cannons.A rhino looks a lot like an American family of APCs, the name of which I forget.
