I play BA and my buddy wolves. I do pretty well and the last two games we played I mopped the floor with him. The problem is he's getting really frustrated and I don't want to just throw him a game. I've made suggestions but if any wolves players have some advice please post and i'll pass it along. I'd hate for him to give up on the game but he hasn't won a game yet and is losing heart.
I don't play wolves, but I've seen them played enough to know how to work.
The Wolves are a rather balanced army. Take Long Fangs to help support the assaulty squads.
Blood Claws and Wolf Scouts are your best friends. So are Wolf Guard.
Terminators are also good for the Wolves, just watch out for their cost.
That's about all I know. Should do okay.
BTW, you could go a little easy on him to let him get the hang of his army.
What he really needs is to take his army against a NON space marine. Then he'll see, that space marines are little baskets of HARD. Two very assaulty marine armies going toe to toe will always come down to dice rolls and tactics. He's just gotta keep at it and learn what works best, and keep tweaking his list. Careful though, cause if he just plays your BAs all the time, he might tool his army specifically for taking on BAs, and then get SPANKED his first time up against something different.
2 15 man blood claw squads with 3 powerfists and a wolf gurad leader with powerfist. Nasty!
Have you considered drop podding them, they can be very effective if used this way.

I've had TONS of success and fun with my space wolves, I've won a few leagues with them and a small tourney.
Keep the HQs cheap and effective.Venerable dreadnaught, Rune priest(stom caller ROCKS), and Wolf priest. in order of that importance in my list.
10 man squads-
Blood claws: 2x powerfists, 1 wolf guard leader with wolf tooth necklace and powerfist. 12 powerfist attacks on the charge.
Grey hunters: 2x powerfists, 1 wolfguard leader with wolf tooth necklace and powerfist. 8 to 10 powerfist attacks on the charge.(depending on whether you true-grit them)
I mount them in a rhino, it takes a little finesse and getting used to but rhinos are still very useful in packs- they cover each other from massed fire and get to where they need your boys to go. Just remember the turn before you want to assault to disembark, or the turn you want to assault, just don't move the rhino and disembark.
a pair of land speeders with assault cannons , and a predator(all lascannons).
Surround and pound- bait the enemy with grey hunters, and charge them with the blood claws. Or, assault single squads with multiple blood claws to make sure there are no survivors and repeat.
just what worked with me. Hope it helps.
W/D/L Eleventy trillion billion/NONE/ NONE - I am STILL rulezor!
WINDMILLS DO NOT WORK THAT WAY!
What I recommend against BA are full GH packs, loaded with most optional weapons and bolters. You could pod them. Then just accept the charge of the BA, in a prolonged fight GHs will win.
A counter-attack unit would be nice too against stuff like Assault Marines and DC.
Rodgambit, SW are not an easy army to play with and there's little chance to 'cheese them up'. I don't know whether you do, but it would make life a bit more easy if you don't load your units with bare Veteran Sergeants for better DC. BA are still a perfectly viable army if you don't min-max everything. No offense meant if you don't do it anyway.
There is one really important thing the guys are missing here...
HOWL before every battle! .. and correct me if i'm wrong but BA is an army assault oriented.. so a few Long Fangs squads should be able to blast you away from outside your effective range.
Nami kotogotoku, waga tate to nare. Ikazuchi kotogotoku, waga yaiba to nare.
In assault BA do better in the first round but after that generally SW do better.
So if you blunt his assualt force SW will mop the BA up pretty well.
I have a tendency to mix up my army list also, which probably doesn't help him cause he loses one way then thinks of how to beat that then faces something else. The first time I ran small tactical squads with a heavy weapon in each as a firing base to cover my assaults. The second time I ran a more balanced army of 10 man squads with 1 special/1 heavy in each. But I do agree that his army is a bit more finese and dice rolls haven't always gone his way. I personally think he should put at least 1 if not 2 long fang packs on the board against me because they draw so much fire that he would have time to move his rhinos across the board easier. Last game he ran rhinos but no long fangs so i easily blew them up first turn. He runs a ven dread for 1st turn but has lost it both times against me even with the reroll. I'm just trying to keep his spirits up about the army and I agree if he'd play someone other then me or my buddies guard army with ordance weapons he'd probably fair better. He does a bit better against my buddies guard cause he usually drop pods his whole army and gets into assault quickly...however, he has to watch out for the 2 units of rough riders and their 20 power attacks on the charge.
Thanks for the tips.
Oh and i'm not really in the habit of putting naked sarg's into my units. I usually use those points on more men a plasma pistol, grail, ect..
It mostly depends on how min/maxed your blood angle list is.
If your going up against him with a tourney list, then he should play to spread you out.
For example, if he had a couple of dreadnoughts and some blood claws on bikes + some landspeeder tornados, in his deployment zone, and then 4 squads of greyhunters + a scout squad in reserves, most of your CC stuff would move to maul him quickly, of course the stragagy is to seperate the death company from the rest of the force. Once thats done, the death company will of kourse beat what ever it charges, but then will be shot up, and need to travel for a turn, or two, getting back into the fight, idealy by this time, the space wolves and crushed the rear gaurd of the blood angles, and now just deal with a few mop up squads, and the death company.
Good luck to your friend, if he wants real help, he should submit a list to the army section.
