I played few games of CoD and I see that most missions in CoD are objective based, and that standard marine units have very few possibilities for moving without problems through difficult terrain or fast through building.
So question is, what units choose to make army mobile and still strong for city fighting?
There is no point in devastating 100% of enemy units in turn 6 when he already plant lots of flags in most buildings and you have no way to transport your units to another quarter and into building (no speeders)
Small scouts squad - 5men with ML+Bolters or snipers. Could infiltrate to objective and hold it while shooting at enemy. Cheap but very vulnerable to assault.
Bigger scout squad - 8men Bp+CCW with vet sgt+powerfist. Infiltrates to objective and has extra dice to move out of building and assault. But quite vulnerable to shooting outside building and 6move is not ideal for reaching assault.
Small scout bike squad - dont need stratagem to reach objectives but has to roll for difficult terrain when entering rubbles. Fast to move from one objective to other, but vulnerable to shooting and assault.
Other ideas could be infiltrating devastators or veterans, jump squad or dreadnought that moves like infantry so could get into building, unlike speeders or tanks.
But what to do against faster armies that could hold buildings left unprotected or fastly avoit LoS of stationar unit?
Another aspect of CoD is that omega play could last for more turns on roll of 4+. This is very good for units that can move very fast and enter buildings without troubles...
What are you thinking about upgrading army for CoD missions?
After that I reccomend
Rhinos!!! Mechanized lists can be awesome in City fights. You get the benefit of the vehicles mobility and the benefit of lots of cover to block LOS to those vehicles. Rhinos will alow you to capture objective in two or three turns as opposed to three or four, and once Space Marine squads have dug into 4+ cover save buildings they are one of the toughest units to move. Then you can use your Rhinos as size three mobile barricades(or non mobile when they get blown up) And deny your opponent his objectives by slowing his troops up.
I also Reccomend DN especially Venerables with Mechanized lists. Lot more armor distracts your opponents shooting, and that HF is used a bit more often in CoD especially in the case of Drop Pods!
get some rhinps or razor backs
nope drop pods... i used them 2 days or so ago... they work well.
i had 5 men in a drop pod, had them come in on turn 5, smashed them in the building. taking the objective and the name of the game was domination.
