what should i use in a 2000pt battle
#1) 3 exorcists.
#2) 2 exorcists and a retributor squad(H and an immolator(THF).
#4) 3 Retributor squads with an array of different weapons.
i like #1 but i wasnt sure if it was the best... i use #2.
This has been mentioned before - a search of the forums will get you the answer.
To help you out though (and show off a bit myself, sorry) - This thread goes into the same question, although it didn't quite start as the same question as you are asking.
yeah keep saying get 2 but my question is mainly exorcist or retributors?
which is the better buy?
It's not like there's an avalanche of new posts hitting this lonely forum so fast that we have to conserve space.
Most members round here subscribe to 2 Exorcists.
Exorcists are like Rooks. They should work together.
2D6 missiles is enough to subdue many challenges.
(Remember also that AP1 Missiles convert Glances to Penetrating).
Now one might ask,
"if 2D6 missiles do well enough, then why not 3D6 missiles?"
Yes, Sheldon, 3Ds are better than 2Ds, (especially when we're talking about women's gifts).
But there's other things an army must think about.
Like the fact that 3 Exorcists costs quite a lot of points, and it denies you faith.
It can also get difficult to squeeze all three Exorcists into the same fire lane.
Lastly, Retributors are an important squad.
The WH army is hard pressed to deliver injuries on turn 1 and 2.
The Rets can fill that role. And they can do it cheaply.
My theory on Rets is this:
6-8 girls with 3 HBs is cheap, and hard.
Opponents are rarely stupid enough to move directly into their LOS.
A static offense will usually spend most of its time waiting for targets.
I also find that a lot of the time, only three of the HBs are seeing the target. So I take three.
I also don't like the idea of spending 50 extra points on the squad for the sake of Divine Guidance. So I skip the Vet, and only tanke 8 of them.
If you keep the squad cheap, they can easily fulfill their obligation.
If you get fancy and expensive with them, their obligation rises. But there' little you can do about it, because they are a static offense.
At least that's my preference.
Other methods can certainly work.
Sisters Repentia: Wow what beautiful models! Wow what terrible rules! -stjohn70
I only use 1 Exorcist myself. I just pair it with a Leman Russ rather then a second Exorcist. And the 2 Armored Fist squads help fill out the heavy weapon compliment. Retributers with 4 heavy Bolters take up my last heavy slot. Unlike Red, I find that I usually can get a shot with all 4 heavy bolters every round. They don't tend to take much fire back, either. (the enemy's main guns are hitting the 4 offensive tanks or the Seraphim and advancing sister squads). And the acts of faith have let them gun down basically anything that's not a vehicle (Tyranid Monstrous Creatures included).
So I'd say two heavy tanks (exo/exo or exo/russ), and a squad of Retributers against most opponents. It gives nice mix of volume of fire for troops and anti-tank punch. I'd skip the Immolator though, your Ret squad needs more then 6 girls or it falls apart fast.
i use only one exorcist, but i do run a unit of retiburtors (6 strong with vet and 3 heavy bolters) and as long as they start in cover, they do very well on kills.
it varies for me.... i recently started using 3 exorcists and love it but most of my experience is with 2 exo's and a 10 man squad of retributors w/ a vet and 4 HB

Also, no-one has commented that Penitent Engines are heavy support choices. I tend to field;
3 Penitent Engines
Then use flamer squads, as well as storm bolters and a heavy bolter in my Celestian Squad to chew up troops. I love penitent engines, the models, the craziness...
I use two exorcist, my remaining heavy support isn't taken. With the front armour they have and strength of weapons I find that thats all I need anti-tank wise in 1000pts. I dislike retributors since they are slow in comparison, damage wise a basic squad of sisters with flamers does just as well. (I do have retributors myself but i never use them except in combat patrol)
In higher points values I still only use two, having too many of one unit spoils an armies composition I think and makes it a little boring.....but thats just me
I've taken to playing Cities of death recently and I only own a single Exorcist anyway (converted from 2 old whirlwinds) and usually take a Retributor squad (Heavy bolter or MultiMelta's), the Exorcist, and either an orbital srtike or an Immolator. I find that although two exorcists would be awsome, I would get alot of sideways glances, besides I don't have any trouble beating most players and if my win ratio starts dropping, who knows, I might have to make me another one.
