My friend, who plays IG, managed to fit 2 Leman Russ tanks (regular) into a 500 point army. They both have heavy bolter sponsons and that's all. I only have a heavy bolter, a missile launcher, and 2 plasma guns. i also have an assault squad whose chaplain has meltabombs. without having to get close, how can i pop his tanks or should i give the whole squad meltabombs?
Egads! I'm pretty damn sure this is not possible. Let my check my Guard dex.
At the minium his list would look like this:
HQ Platoon - Cheapest possible
2x Grenadier Squads, (Each 5 man, no upgrades)
2x Leman Russes
Well I'll be.
I would just refuse to play this list. If not, just whack a few melta bombs on the side, and Calgar's your uncle.
Don't give a Chaplain Meltabombs unless he doesn't have a Powerfist. They work better on Vet Sgts. But since you're relying on them give it to the Sarge and the Chappie (Sarge taking Meltabombs at 5 points from the armoury).
Take what heavy weapons you can and think BRISTLE!
Post your army lists in the ARMY LIST section! Not that hard!
oh yeah, the vet sergeant has a power fist. the chappie doesn't have a power fist tho. he's my close friend so im not gonna complain about his list. any other ideas?
With what you have, you really can't. Do give meltabombs to the assault squad and drop-pod the plasma guns hoping for a rear shot.
If he will let you proxy:
80 Captain, combi-plasma gun, meltabombs
90 5-man Tactical Squad, missile launcher
85 5-man Tactical Squad, plasma gun
250 Proxied Landraider
500 total. Put the Captain with Tac-Plasma and have them footslog advance while the Tac-Missile and Landraider cover them. Good luck; you're playing a very nasty list with limited resources.

A Landspeeder Tornado with an Assault Cannon. Works out to 80 points, easy to maneuver near side/rear armour, and the Rending shots can chew through any armour value with a bit of luck. It's invincible to any basic Las weapons and Assaults (S3 vs AV10), so you only have to worry about those Russes and any special weapons/powerfists that pop up. Plus, it'll do absolutely horrible things to anything else he can field. (AP4, baby!)
A basic speeder with a Multimelta works wonders too. Fast, maneuverable, and lethal for only 65 points. Better odds at punching through a tank, but I'd still reccommend the Tornado unless you really need the extra 15 points.
If you're going the Meltabombs route, find the points to equip the whole squad - they're dirt cheap. Those Russes aren't likely to move that much anyways (moving = hard to hit), so multiple Meltabombs are guaranteed to hurt them. That Powerfist Sergeant is always helpful, too.
Bikes are another idea. They can take Meltabombs, Meltaguns, and Multimeltas, and they're fast enough to close in on the tanks. Turbo-boost them across the table to get close and claim the Invulnerable save, then 12 inches more and it's Melta time!
Basically, your Fast Attack choices work best here. Better to try for side/back shots or at least front shots with Melta weaponry than to try and batter through that massive AV14 front armour with Lascannons and Krak Missiles.
Captain (no gear)
x2 min scout squad with bolters and a ML
1 attack bike squad (2 bikes with melta)
Captain (no gear)
5 scouts w HB
7 marines w HB
2x Attack bike squads w melta (4 bikes total)
Captain (no gear)
2x scouts w HB
2x bike squad with melta (6 bikes, 4 melta total)
For the record this doesn't sound like a fun game. His army list smaks of someone who plays too many video and rpg games that reward stacking up on 1 ablility.

Old Codex 48-20-9 Dark Eldar
New Codex 1-0-0 Dark Eldar
Why not try...
3 Bikes w/Meltabomb
Multi-melta attack bike
3 melta weapons
Should bring sure doom to any tank filled army.
Remember, if somebody helps you out give them a cookie! Click the star button at the bottom of thier post. Rep Cookies taste gooooood :D
Try spacing your models out 2 inches.. makes the Russ so damn innefective its ridiculous.

A 5 man Assualt squad with metla bombs will work wonders or how about a 3 man bike squad with a metla gun or two, turbo boost them and no more battle cannon worrys and its pretty cheap too
ZOOOMMMM cant hurt me leman because im moving slightly faster than normal!
