heavy weapons are not artillery guns and do not follow the artillery rules. is this correct?

As already said yes, things like elder gun platforms and ork big guns are because the weapons are not being held by the crew were as heavy weapons are part of the squad and not a model by itself
"Hey sarge, this lasgun is heavy. I wish we had something lighter."

I'm sorry, but I think they do follow artillery rules. The picture on page 56 of the 40k rulebook under the artillery heading is the picture of an Imperial guardsmen with his hands on his ears ducking behind a gun emplacement.

I just can't see why GW would put an irrelevant image there on that page. And it would make sense to call it artillery, what else could it possibly be. It can't be normal infantry because it has no rules for say the gun platforms AV and rules concerning the men manning the gun.
So as I see it, the rulebook has a picture under artillery of an Imperial guard heavy weapon team, rules that support the heavy weapon teams (specifically saying troops cannot fire other weapons) etc. and last but not least, no other rules for different types of units would suit the team.

But then again, why are we fighting over a few lasgun shots!

There not artillery as in there stats its says that its a heavy 1 or something weapon so its a heavy weapon and not artillery

Same with marines, are the heavy weapons they carry artillery? No there not and its the same for us too.

    ARTILLERY
These units represent large weapons and their crews, the gun models themselves being llarge enough to be removed seperatly in addition to crew casualties. Artilery units count as infantry in all respects, but when they are fired at hits can be scored on the guns or the crew. The guns themselves have vehicle-like charastics. Note that these units should not be confused with heavy weapons teams found in some infantry units (such as IMPERIAL GUARD or endar, for example)

nect time read the book, dont just look at pictures, that only works in magazines

and elric, doesnt the rule book have a picture of a tau pulse rifle next to gets hot?
Tau have NO gets hot weapons so this ludacris
