I'm due to play a Bunker Assault mission soon against an as-yet-to-be-determined opponent and wanted to get some advice on what works well here. I posted my regular army list as well as my tentative list for this game here. But wanted some general tactical advice and strategy as well. What are some best practices that work to help you hold the bunker against an onslaught? Most of the armies in my group are pretty mobile so I'm expecting the enemy to be coming towards me rather than staying back and shooting from afar.
That's exactly what you want to do. Keep your heavy shooters near the bunker and let the bullets fly. If you have dedicated assault units, especially assault marines, don't move them until the enemy chargers are just outside of the range they need to charge you. Then you charge them, denying them the bonus. I knocked out a sizable Chaos Terminator Squad with that.
If you do have vehicles, Predators, Vindicators, Don't Move Them. That way they can force the enemy to go through the tanks before the bunker. But that will be after they have been riddled with bullets.
If I remember correctly, the third point was how Germany was defeated in both World Wars.
- Don't move your assault units until your opponent is breathing down your neck. That way you'll really nail them in CC.
- Keep your shooters and vehicles near the bunker. That's alot of stuff that they'll need to get by before hitting the bunker.
- If you must Deep Strike, do it behind their assault. That will force a two front attack. Either: Attack the bunker, and the Terminators will rip you to shreds. Or, forgoe the bunker to nail the Termies to reduce risk, forcing them to move away from the objective. This'll allow your bunker defenders to riddle them with more bullets as they hit the threat.
