Recently i have been watching some classic war movies (the great escape, Full metal jacket, etc) and i fear i have caught the imperial guard bug. My doctor says it is a serious case and there is no currently known cure. I am thinking of ordering the cadian battleforce and codex. What would be a suitable way to expand this?
I would be going more for the realism theme so transports and things appeal to me greatly, i was thinking of maybe getting a couple of chimera's with the battleforce. Good idea or no?
Thanks for all your feedback,
Soon-to-be Guardsman A.
i would go for another box of infantry and a chimera. this would give you a decent sized platoon of infantry and a flexible rapid reaction unit in the form of chimera
Where there's a will there's a weapon
Sounds cool. Just use mass infantry, backed up by Russes and various heavy weapons.
Just stay away from sentinels for obvious reasons........they were VERY unreliable back in the forties ;-)
Could say that stormtroopers use parachutes, as teleporting isn't possible due to magnetic something-or-rather.
Just an idea...
I agree with Geom. An extra set of infantry and Chimera. Then set your phaser to convert and you'll be able to make the most of your heavy weapon bits.
Also using the accessory sprue from the Leman and Chimera (in addition to bits from the other Infantry box) you should be abel to cobble together a few officers.
After that more troops and then spreading out into whichever branch of the IG you want. They can be surprisingly diverse for a sit and shoot type army.

When I say jump you don't ask me 'How high?' maggot! You jump!
well you need another box of guys, and a cimera if you want armoured fists, so that gives you a command squad, platoon command, 20 guard, 10 fists with a chimera, a russ and 3 heavy weapons
a decent army, for a start
Go conscripts. I've been reading the codex again and had the wonderfull vision of 50 conscripts for a troop choice. FYI, that's 200 points for 50 models and 100 lasgun shots. Imagine them charging! Reveal your Holy Relic and thats 150 CC attacks!
Try to stop that 'nids!
ya youl only land about 50 of them and then only would either 10-20, and they save roughly , ohh, i dont know, 5, so a squad of 20 gaunts is now 15, and i think th ey attack first, so tyou dont get all those attacks
I think a good start is two battleforce box's, heaps of guys, two tanks and heavy weapons. The base of the IG.
as for the conscripts.. I cant say I charge mine, 6" at a time with them being destroyed from long rang weapons...... I find them great at defence or as a shield.
Well I am inclined to a full compliment of Air Support and lots of OMA (Off Map Artillery), followed through with lots of mechanised units... but I am still very new to IG and I am still trying to figure out how I can support this?
man good luck getting 50 models w/in two inches of anouther on the charge man if you can more power to you buts its hard as hell.Originally Posted by Aizar Kel
Guard don't have any real off map artillery, if you want air support and have a fair bit of cash on hand look at the forge world flyer models, they require some skill to use but are quite fun. In larger games the maraduer bomber is pretty nasty( but then so are all super heavy flyers). Lots of mechanized units is easy enough to pull off, there is a doctrine avaible that allows you to mount all your units in chims. It costs lots a dollers...( 100 ish per 2 squad platoon). Your idea is pretty solid start with a codex, read it over a few times and see what you like.
