I've been messing around with a few ideas for my new army and I'm finding it hard to settle on an idea. I thought I'd ask what I should do as I really can't bring myself to make a final decision.
I wan't to field a mechanised army. I enjoy having the good mobility and fielding a bunch of tanks. I'm also adamant about using the chem-inhalers doctrine. I'd only concider the grenadiers doctrine if I can put chem-inhalers on them. I've found that it's difficult to get a definite answer from anyone regarding this.
So in short:
1)Any suggestions for a mechanised army?
2)Can Storm trooopers take chem-inhalers?
thanks in advance!
1) Be wary of cost! It will be very expensive for a big army. Take predominantly special weapons as you will be moving a lot, but don't neglect your heavy weapons, either, for when you deposit some squads at objectives. I don't have much experience with Mech IG, but I'm sure others here can help you. :yes:Originally Posted by Purifico
2) I'm pretty sure that's a big "no." I believe it says that Guard Infantry Units may take them, correct? Grenadiers/Storm Troopers are not Guard Infantry Units. I don't have my codex to double check, but if it says that, then nope, they can't take them. Guard Infantry Units are described on the bottom left of page 55.
1) For mechanized you can do 1 of two things
-Try to make it heavy maneuver and use lots of special weapons
-Make it a static firing line with chimeras as machineguns on wheels
All mech lists are generally expensive (dollar-wise and point-wise) and even the compulsory slots on the force org chart can fill out a 1000 pt list easily. Chimeras are an odd creature. They lack the side armor and access points to be effective maneuver transports but aren't packing a whole lotta heat either. I find mech is one of the roughest lists to pull off as the guards main strength of numbers can only be achieved in the vehicle category and even then the vehicles aren't that resilient.
2) No reference to who can use chem inhalers is ever mentioned in the list. If it is "guard infantry" it'll preclude adding it to grenadiers.

chem-inhalers are special equipment, so I'd say no too. however, it's not written in the chem-inhaler entry, so basicly you could give it to ratlings too. though i think gw just missed to clarify this point like many others before.
Technically, if you read it as is printed (and if it's not corrected elsewhere in an OFFICIAL FAQ), then you are allowed to give the Chem-Inhalers to any unit in the army, including Storm Troopers/Grenadiers.
That's just reading it word for word. Personally, reading it like that, I wouldn't have any problems if someone put it in their list. That's just me, though.
Would be a good idea to check with your local opponents/tourney organisers, etc. to see what they say.
