so my army currently has 6 rocket launchers, 6 auto cannons, 3 lascannons, and 9 sniper rifles. it has always performed well, but my brother recently purchased a land raider crusader and i'm wondering if I should upgrade the rocket launchers to lascannons?
are rocket launchers good enough against av14? what has your experience been?
The problem with Missile Launchers is that they are wonderful weapons.... but not quite so wonderful against AV14, especially in a 'Guard army.
Typical BS will have you hitting 50% of the time with the ML's. Even then, you need to roll a 6 just to glance AV14.
So, I'd say Lascannons are definitely a good weapon to take against Land Raiders/Monoliths, etc. to be honest. I wouldn't enjoy relying on 6's all game to take it down..
True, but the amount of firepower that the Land Raider Crusader can dish out, too, will be extremely painful, especially to an IG army. He's soaking a lot of points into that one vehicle, and chances are a very expensive unit will be inside of it.Originally Posted by [Black] Katalyst
get a squad of deepstriking vets, 5 with 3 meltas should do the trick.
this is what i'm thinking of doing
switch launchers to lascannons and lascannons to launchers well as deploying my new Heavy Support (2 basilisk and 1 demolisher with lascannon/plasma)
this should give me 6 lascannons, 3 launchers, 6 autocannons, plus the tanks and snipers. would that work?
As already said deepstriking vets are your best bet with 3 metla guns
One thing you could do is give a tank improved comms as its cheap and anything that gets that
landraider destroyed before it gets to your lines the better
"Hey sarge, this lasgun is heavy. I wish we had something lighter."
FF7: ABOUT RANDOM BATTLES
Is it? Deepstriking troops are highly unreliable, in my opinion. They aren't guaranteed to come on when you want them (by the time they do come on, the LRC could have already done a lot of damage), and many things could go wrong - scatter off the table, scatter into impassable terrain, scatter just far away enough that you need 6's to glance (or worse, out of range, wasting the whole unit), etc. that, in my book, make a DSing unit less than reliable.Originally Posted by KOS-MOS
Not to mention, what if they don't have the Doctrine Drop Troops, and have no room to put it in? Another thing to consider.
@Korim - I don't think two Bassies and a Demolisher are the way to go for anti-tank. The Demolisher vs. the Land Raider would be very interesting, as both of their most effective ranges are within 24".. but... I think your Demolisher would get shot down before it got into effective range. The Bassies are decent, but I wouldn't go with more than one, especially for anti-tank measures. Just something to think about. The Demolisher Cannon is a good anti-tank tool, though, so you might still want to bring it along.
correct me if im wrong, but i beleive veterans could also take infiltrators instead of deep strike (or is that storm troopers...?) anyway, take a squad that can infiltrate as apposed(sp?) to something that may not even turn up in battle/kill themselves.
+ infiltrators may start up to 18" away from enemys. and whats the range of a melta gun?? i think you have a possible better candidate than deep strike already.
