Anyone know if there are significant numbers of Scythes extant?
I know of at least one sergeant who survived, but I was wondering if there is sufficient room in the fluff to allow me to field a force themed around the Scythes rebuilding their chapter.
Thanks for any and all input.
Scythes of the Emperor
Adeptus Astartes Chapter 874, the Scythes of the Emperor were founded at some point during the middle of the 41st millennium. Their gene-stock is speculated to have come from the Ultramarines. The Scythes served during the Damocles Gulf Crusade, and played a vital role in the capture of Sy'l'kell from the Tau Empire. However, the crusade stalled and withdrew when it was learned that the newly-discovered Tyranids were heading for Ultramar, home of the Ultramarines.
After the Badab War, the Scythes were charged to watch over the Lamenters, who were performing a crusade of penance for their role in the rebellion. They continued in this role until the final years of the 41st millennium, when the chapter's homeworld was attacked and destroyed by Hive Fleet Kraken. The Scythes are presumed destroyed with their homeworld, but rumours indicate that a small number of survivors may be active and are pursuing splinters of Kraken.
The armour of the Scythes of the Emperor is black and yellow, with crossed yellow scythes depicted on the shoulder panels.
I got that from Wikipedia because im lasy
"Hey sarge, this lasgun is heavy. I wish we had something lighter."
FF7: ABOUT RANDOM BATTLES
Just to clarify. I want to know how many survived their homeworlds destruction, or whether sufficient time has passed for them to have rebuilt enough to field half-company sized forces again.
I doubt that GW has released any specific numbers for you, but if "a small number of survivors" are pursuing Tyranids across the galaxy... there's at least enough for some battles, I'd think, and if there are survivors there'd be very little reason why they wouldn't try to rebuild.Originally Posted by Corianis
This might be a better question to ask in the Fluff forum, where more fluffmasters will see it.
Well here you run into a bit of a GW Snafu. See, the Sycthes of the Emperors and the Lamenters were both WIPED OUT, to a man in 2nd edition fluff. ALong witht he Rainbow Warriors they make up 3 chapters that were eliminated. BUT GW has kinda written off the High Fantasy Theme of their old fluff, so If you were to build it. I'd say...
Lots of Scouts.
Basically all infantry.
Possibly an Ordo Xenos Inquisitor, taking an interest int eh chaters rebirth.
If you want to see a good site for Scythes, see The-Scythes.com. He's got good background and fluff that incorporates every bit of GW fluff on the chapter that I've ever read (which is a lot) and fills in the gaps. He's also chosen appropriate traits.
GW did say that though the entire first company was wiped out while buying time for evacuation, that the majority of the chapter was destoyed at the last stand at Giant's Coffin, though some got away and fled to a nearby world to regroup.
Presumably, there are fewer than 100 marines left. In the time since the death of their homeworld, it is plausible that the Administratum may have stepped-in to provide the necessities to begin rebuilding the chapter's gene-stock, and that there may be a decent number of scouts. I'd imagine that all the survivors are battle-hardened veterans, though they suffer from lack of equipment and wargear.
Thanks HumanusImperialis and Grotstomper, just the sort of thing I was after. Can't imagine how I missed that web page earlier.
