This is one of those threads were we complain about our army and how all the armys are better then ours
This weeks topic is how do we make the storm trooper on par with the vet squad?
Heres some ideas that i came up with
1 - Make the hellgun S4 ap - or assault 1 or 2
2 - Take away the krak grenades and/or targeters and make them 9 points each
3 - Make them 9 points each anyway
4 - Give them infiltrate and deep strike for free like vets get it
5 - Make storm troopers a fast attack choice if they infiltrate or deep strike
If you like one of these ideas let me know if you think it could work or you can post a idea of your own
Hellgun S3 AP5 Rapid fire 12", Assault 1 24" is the only real change I'd like to see done to the stormies. Giving the hellgun an alternate firing mode so it can keep it's range even when the stormies are moving, that would give the stormies a purpose that veterans can't do, as more mobile unit.Originally Posted by KOS-MOS
I wouldn't mind seeing them as fast attack, just so I can squeeze more BS4 Into my army!:w00t:
But on a more serious note I think changing the hellgun stats makes sense, Vets at the moment are easilly the better buy.
Wouldn't mind seeing some sort of fast vehicle In the guard armoury, or assault cannons back on Sentinals like the good old days :shifty:

Oh Jebus *shakes head*
Stormtroopers are fine as are veterans, neither need changing and both fill a unique role in the army.
Stormtroopers are elite by nature and generally borrowed from a stormtrooper regiment. Hellguns are prefectly adequate when used against most non-MEQ armies especially with their BS of 4. The grenades don't seem like much, but they come in handy and you really don't pay anything for them. Targeters are also pretty fun, but underused. The heavier armor does wonders for stormtroopers survivability as the infantry weapons that generally shred guard to pieces are notably less effective. In general, I like em and the role they fill.
Hardened vets have gotten a somewhat confused role mostly thanks to the doctorine system; however, taking the veterans and drop troops doctorines still won't make them as versatile as stormtroopers and taking the carapace upgrade increases the cost if your whole army just to get these guys up there and you still won't have hellguns, the grenades or the targeters. Hardened vets have some firepower, but stormtroopers just have a more robust equipment package.
Blais's Paint Studio-Getting broken armies good soft scores since 2009
while yes a s4 hellgun would be good and all but personally the only real problem is that they are a bit over priced. it would also be cool to be able to give them bolters instead of hellguns at 1pt extra per model. at the cost we pay they should be better than they are. their is no reason why they couldnt have bolters
Where there's a will there's a weapon
I like the look of Storm troopers and have a box of them ready to make but if you look at what they can do then you will see that vets can do a lot of the jobs that Storm troopers do for less
First off they need to pay to infiltrate and deep strike and if you make them foot troops then they need to spend two turns get into range where as a normal guard squad would have a heavy weapon and as such would only need to get into cover and find some good line of sight
The grenades is why there 10 points and not 9 and we dont want them, frags are only useful for assault troops and kraks are one of the most useless weapons in the game.
S6 vs any tank is a joke and grenades need 6s to hit a walker in close combat
I can see them useful for taking objectives with there better armour save but its getting them there in the first place that is the problem
i prefer storm troopers over hardened veterens anyway...
just because the storm trooper models look so damn good

Exiled until 5thED redo...
I just hate them when I have to play against Sisters of Battle.
For one Pt less I get:
Targeters: Near worthless in most situations (I am experianced enough to know how far 12/24" is).
Frag Grenades: For assaulting into cover with IG......
Krak Grenades: For S6 on tanks when I can take melta's....
For 1 Pt more they get:
Power Armour: A better save, and a save against ap4.
Bolters: Which are better than Hellguns
Faith: I really don't know how this works, but heck 3+ inv?
For 1pt, go game balance GW!
Give me the option of buying grenades like most other units and stop foisting these useless pieces of metal onto my overloaded soldiers.
Every time you read this sig: a fairie dies!
I think the hellgun needs help and the grenades are something I never use. Targeters are pretty much a non-entitiy when I think about good things about Stormtroopers. Basically, all they need to be are carapace-armored vets with a revamped hellgun and no heavy choice in my opinion, and they could do with a slightly lower points cost, though this may be wishful thinking or overpowered.
I would like to see the hellgun revamped or bolters on them. Targeters are a nice idea...but almost useless. They would be useful on squads with heavy weapons when you cant quite decide whats in 48" and whats not. True, we never use the grenades, but sometimes I take comfort in knowing that theyre there. By the way, does anyone take melta bombs regularly?
Infiltrate/deepstrike for free would make so much sense because...theyre elite!
Now, I think they could be 1 point leess, but if they got bolters or a better hellgun, I could see it maybe going up 1 pt for like deepstrike/infiltrate. For what we pay, their gun should already be better.
Fast attack would be lovely.

How many guardsmen does it take to screw in a lightbulb?
None, their lasguns work fine.
