ok, so i'm planing on giving my librarian a bike and i was going to have a biker squad accompany him. i was wondering, what would be a good size of that unit so that it sufficiently protects my librarian.
Welll, Since bikes have such low numbers, that's hard to do. If you have the points, take five bikes plus an attack bike. Plenty of coverage. But very expensive.
But since they have T5, 3 should do the job, and is more cost efficient.
Well what do you intend for them to do?
If it's just to provide simple protection and a little bit of firepower to your Librarian then three would do it.
But, if you want to make it into a powerhouse of MC or AV killing power, outfit it with five bikers with two meltaguns and a Multimelta attack bike. It's expensive but there's little that can stand up against it if played right.
Or you can go the anti infantry way and kit them out with dual flamers and a Heavy bolter attack bike.
Those are the three main ways of playing them. Also, if you just want meat shields for your Librarian, consider taking scout bikes. The save is a bit worse but you get five for 125 points which is a lot cheaper than the standard bikes, plus you can give them meltabombs for some backup AV power.
People who don't know how to use artillery are using artillery, and that scares me. -TacJack
Bring out the Bikes!
Just be sure to take an attack bike. You actually get two bikes for a smaller price, along with with one twin-linked bolter exchanged for a heavy bolter. The only price you pay is losing one potential attack on the charge. I definitely recommend using them!
