whenever i try to expand my army list, the same problem comes up. i have about 80-120 points leftover, which in a DH list, is never enough to do anything significant besides turning your GM into a massive point sink.
does anyone have any real effective strategies to counter this? these [lack of] extra opitns have caused me countless headaches, and i need to do something about it.
118 points is a Dread for me or, why not use a plain Inquisitor with a Psycannon and Artificer Armour? A couple of Orbital stikes?

Oh, there's lots of goot options around that 80-120 points.
At the low end, an orbital strike could be fun (you can only have 0-1 max, Diggums). A pair of terminators, or a psycannon and a terminator. Additional retinue models (convert that elite inquisitor into an I-lord). A chimera for your inquisitor. (Even if he's shooty, run it empty to cause trouble.) Add in auspex and frag grenades and melta bombs to all your justicars.
At around 100 pts, a squad of plasma ISTs is cheap and handy. A chimera with all the trimmings, even a splurge for a hunter-killer missile
Once you're up to 120, take a dreadnought. Or a full IST squad with special weapons.
ninjabackhand: point and click, again, really? even after i give you an military term "shock tactic" you still call it point and click.

forgot about orbital strike
yeah ist when u hit 50 points u are kind of stuck, especially if it is like 45 then u cant just add on a few grey knights. When this happens i just splurge on the inquisitor, the supposed to be bad@$$ anyway.
