I recently started reading novels of warhammer 40K, most of em bout marines. and I must admid, as I first found them cowards hiding in tons of armour, I now like them. I'm actually considering playing them, cause I like there fluff. but, I don't know which chapter. can you tell me which chapter is good in what? I mean, Tau's good in shooting.
what do the chapters of marines do best?
If you're looking for something similar to your Tau, where you'll be doing a lot of shooting, you'll probably find Dark Angels or Imperial Fists to be most fitting to your tastes.
If you'd like something totally different, you could rush into assault with Space Wolves or Black Templars. Even Blood Angels can be very, very, very assaulty.
If you'd like a balanced army, you really can't go wrong with the Ultramarines. They can both shoot and assault quite well. Of course, you're always able to take Traits to make your army different.
Welcome to the brotherhood:ninja:
There is a Space Marine Chapter for almost every style of player out there. You've got the Close Combat specialists of Blood Angels, Black Templars, and Space Wolves. The Plasma filled shootiness of the Dark Angels and the blandness of the Ultra Marines. However if its a customized army your looking for then you can always create a trait chapter. Although Trait chapters are difficult to get right, once you've found your traits its really fun to play with. Hope this helps.

I agree with firedrake go for the dark angels or impirial fist.
imperial fists? ooh, rogal dorn. cool. do they have there own codex? if not, where can I find there rules?
I would've loved to play the Luna Wolves. Ooh well...
In the Space Marine codex, traits section, it'll list the traits of famous chapters at the end. Imperial Fists should be right there.
Actually I want a mix. I mean, I want to finish my enemy in CC, so I want a footslogging army shooting to backup some of the quicker units. as a result, he will eventually have to focus on 2 or 3 cc squads and all the shooty stuff. He can only focus on one thing, CC or shooty. meaning I got an advantige.
Sounds like you want to play Black Templars, since they focus on large footslogging units to reach the enemy, while being supported by vehicle mounted heavy weapons.
If you like that whynot try raven gaurd. They use shooting squads to back up their assault marines.
My armies are studly!
