I was thinking about making a Guard list with three basilisks and all the heavy weapons in the platoons would be mortars,
I know alot of people don't like mortars BUT, with so many I'd be sure to get a few pinnings a turn and maybe even a few downed models on my oppents side,
and how fun would this list be, a pie plateing army to the extreme, lol
the plan would be just to sit back, behind cover and lob shells across the field
only real problem i can think of is vehicles but I'm sure there is some way to counter them with this list
Thanks for all replies
The mortars will not kill off the enmy before they get to your lines as mortars are so weak and allow most armour saves aslo most armys dont really care about Ld that much like marines and you still need to kill one to force a test and this is not easy with a mortar shot
Three basilisks can work but they wount win the game for you as it wount take long for the enemy to get within 36" and then your basses are just light tanks with paper armour, if you do take 3 then dont take any other tanks like hellhounds as most of your armour will be out of line of sight and the one or two tanks in the open will not last long
"Hey sarge, this lasgun is heavy. I wish we had something lighter."
FF7: ABOUT RANDOM BATTLES
Ive only used my mortars a few times as theyve got bad press but at the price of the squad they always make their points back esp against guard. i got lucky and took out a chimera with a mortar (exposed side armour and a scatter i wasnt aiming for it lol). my take on mortars is yes you need loads but line squads means you lose any chance of direct fire and you cant hide that many men. Why not use one of your heavy support options and take a platoons worth of them, stick two squads with the command and one in each command squad, this would give you the mortars and a chance at direct fire but you do lose one bassie. (i find the third one to be a bit rubbish actually as its hard to hide well without crapping up you deployment.)
