well, it depends on the main scenario, if it is something like patrol, you cant field many tanks

i would say one battle force, and a couple infantry and heavy weapons boxes, that should set you off pretty good for 500 pts

next time try to search for an older thread, there are several others like this one asking the same question

    .

    cheapest way for 500 points?

    Ebay.

And, if you don't mind using non-GW models, you can use other manufacturer's things, like I did, and use old warzone and chronopia models.

But, if you are against Ebay, and want to use GW models, the best way for you to get 500 points with guard is the battle box. It's a good deal.

In that box, you get a leman russ, the backbone of the guard. ok not really, but it's a good tank, and generall costs at least 150 points. Dollar cost is 45$ (I think)

You also get 20 cadian infantry. That's about 150ish points of infantry, fully upgraded. Dollar cost is approx. 40$

And, you get 3 heavy weapon platforms. If you take those guardsmen, and put them in squads witht he rest of your guardsmen, you actually have enough guys to field a full platoon, with a heavy weapon in each squad. Cost of heavy weapons, 35$

And you get the cool battlefield accessories. (20$)

So, you get a 150 point tank, and an infantry platoon, that when properly equiped costs about 250 points. So you have about 400 points, from just the battle box. that's about 140$ worth of stuff for the 90$ you pay for the battle box. It is a GOOD deal. I wish that was around when I started playing.

As for your last 100 points, to get you to 500, there are several things you can do:

    1) buy a hellhound - 45$
    2) buy more infantry - 40$
    3) buy a command (might be a good idea, but will probably need somethnig else as well) 35$
    4) buy a storm trooper squad. - 40$

So, in order to get a 500 point force, you are looking at spending approximately 140 (tax included). Still wanna play guard?

thanks, but i would need 2 command squads to make that list legal, and thats still alot of money, i think i could have a decent 500pt army for around $200.00. its in the army list section, tell me what you think.
