Welcome to Librarium Online!
I don't play SM yet, but have been going through the codex recently. I noticed that the storm bolter is an assault weapon. Wow I said, that means it can be carried with it's 2, 24" shots, fired and assault, even by normal marines.
So I was wondering, is there a unit, such as maybe Veterans, that can be setup to use the storm bolter, and true grit? I don't know if the storm bolter is available to normal marines, other then a commander, but can't a whole unit of Vets be made to have access to the armory? If so, and using traits, can they all be given storm bolters and a CCW? Just seems this would make for a very versatile unit, and cheaper then say terminator.
No whole units in codex Marines has access to the armory
Storm bolters don't work with true grit unless you're grey knights
It's a nice thought, but with only codex marines, cannot be done.
Blais's Paint Studio-Getting broken armies good soft scores since 2009
Only those with access may take Storm Bolters...
...and you do not get the True Grit bonus with Storm Bolters.
EDITgahh! Shake beat me to it.)
Only one chapter can have True grit with Storm Bolters. Sadly it's out of our juristiction: Grey Knights.
Post your army lists in the ARMY LIST section! Not that hard!
OK thanks. But it sounds like you can setup a power armored squad full of storm bolters though, just no true grit. Is that correct?
And where is the rule about not taking true grit with storm bolters? Is it with true grit or the bolter itself?
No. You can not have a power-armored squad with storm bolters for everyone - from the Codex, that is. It were a nice idea for a DIY Chapter special unit! But as has already been said there is no unit that can access the armory as a whole, and only Terminators are equipped with storm bolters on default.
The True Grit rule is detailed in the rulebook, page 76. It specifically states that only Grey Knights may use the skill along with storm bolters.
No you cant have a full squad with all storm bolters. You just can't
The most you'll get is 5 in a command squad
1 on the HQ
1 on the Sergeant
1 on the Apothecary
1 on the Standard Bearer
1 on the Company Champion
But that will amount to AT LEAST
70 for cheapy captain
35 for Veteran Sergeant
40 for Apothecary
40 for Standard bearer
45 for Champion
25 for the extra marine
Not worth it.
Cool, thanks for the clarifications.Originally Posted by Red Archer
If you're so psyched for stormbolters, why not actually play a Grey Knights army? All of their models *come* with stormbolters *and* S6 melee weapons, and they still wear power armor like normal marines.
