i was just browsing through the sm codex, and i found the rules for shrike. just looking over them he looks awesome! both in his rules and the model. i play dark angels so i can't really use him, but i was just wondering if he's as good as he looks, and if anyone uses him with any success.
Shrike's rules really ARE awesome and he can wreck havoc on the battle-field, especially if accompanied by his retinue, which is somewhat expensive but well worth its points in my opinion. Some stories about Shrike may be found in old threads like this one: [Edit:]BAD LINK!.
Edit: thanks, Connor. Maybe this one works better. The best character.
Your link is broken.
Shrike is good and it is an awsome model (I am going to get it myself) However he is as easy to kill as a normal space marine captain and has only the 3+armour save so if you use him you have to keep him away from powerfists and the like. If you want him you should just buy the model anmd convert it.

with his extreme maneuverability Shrike can quite easily avoid power fists.
Shrike is the best SM character in the book (Lysander comes close but not quite). A guaranteed 1st turn charge. Even if the mission does not allow infiltrate odds are the scouts move, the jump pack move and the assault move will still get you into assault with someone. If infiltrate is allowed then you can assault whomever you feel like.
Shrike then devastates his opponent with 6! rending attacks all hitting all ikely to hit and wound. You cant really do better than that.
His ONLY weakness is that he can get mobbed and killed since hes so far forwards but even then he covers this with his ability to take the wing.
Shrike is just incredible and if you check my tactica (Heroes of the Imperium) a few pages back you can see my analysis of him.

If anyone wants any kind of help writing fluff for any kind of GW army just ask.
Shrike is amazing! And as the worry for powerfist, that is not unfounded BUT EASILY avoided, just don't charge a group with one, hit small targets and keeping in jumping and charging distant of another group. Don't jump in a mobbed up area. You have to think to maximize his effectiveness.
I am of a mixed opinion of Captain Shrike.
He has a wonderful model, really cool fluff, and pretty awesome special rules. However, this is countered by the lack of an invulnerable save (death in CC vs. other good assault units), high points cost, and just being a special character (it's a limitation in my eyes).
Overall, if used correctly I believe that Shrike is a valuable asset to an army. However, his Wing is of an entirely different matter. Not only are they overkill with all of them toting twin Lightning Claws, but they cost an ungodly amount of points while dying just as easily as the next Marine. It's not worth a points sink like that in competitive games. In 100% friendly games, or fluff games, or huge battles where the points don't matter, I can see them being a viable unit, but it's a line similar to the opinion of the Chosen Chaos Space Marines - huge points cost, overkill in effectiveness, fun thoughts. I don't think the Wing is worth it, while Shrike may very well be.
Nemsis is right, but with out the wing he loses is main effectiveness to tear through a squad. And Shrike will get killed fast alone.
That's why he should go with a standard Assault Squad. Cheaper in points, just as effective at killing the enemy (no overkill). Infiltrate is wasted on him, really, as it's completely un-needed. Throw him in your deployment zone with an Assault Squad and have at it.Originally Posted by LictorInTheGrass
take a regular assault squad?! then just take a chaplin! entire point of shrike is to get in the face of the enemy. doing that would waste the points spent on him for those rules. Shrike and 4 of his wing do 22 attacks on the charge, 11 average on the hit, and average 11 to wound (no save). they will annihilate~

Would you infiltrate a squad of very vulnerable, high points cost Marines in LOS to an enemy? Or with LOS blocked? Either way, they are far ahead of their main force and in a very vulnerable position, all the while dying just as easily to anti-MEQ weapons as a standard Tactical Marine. I think the Infiltrate is a tad bit overrated, and the Wing is way too overrated.Originally Posted by LictorInTheGrass
Shrike is cool, but not much more effective than a standard HQ from the SM list.
