Welcome to Librarium Online!
First post, here goes!
Im new to WH40k and decided to join the imperium of man, but not in the shape of "smurfs" as I've seen them called, but regular guys like the IG.
I’ve been wondering about starting either:
Option 1 Steel Legion Armoured Company
3 or 6 Sentinels /w Lascannons and HK-missiles for antitank
2 Chimeras /w Armoured Fist Squads /w rocket launchers for antitank
3-4 Leman Russ Battletanks
1 Leman Russ HG Vanquisher
Option 2 Steel Legion Mechanized Infantry
1 Chimera /w HQ squad
3-6 Sentinels /w Lascannons and HK-missiles for antitank
5-6 Chimeras /w Guard Infantry, 2-3 with rocket launchers for antitank
2 Leman Russ Battletanks
Is either of these lists feasible and should I use basilisks in any of them? How many?
No idea how many points either of them will be… haven’t got the codex here.
Thanks for the help guys
Well it's gonna be Steel Legion, cost it millions or not, I'm gay for Steel Legionnaires!
I'm just not sure about which kind of army, Mech Infantry or Armoured Company.
If I choose AC, should I still have some infantry? Like Armoured Fists? If so, how many
Doller wise, the Armored company would probably cost less than the mechanized infantry, given steel legion are all metal.
However, you seem really pumped about the steel legion models, so I'd go with the mechanized infantry. Also, as that build is more flexible model wise, so if you get bored with just fielding tanks or get interested in a different theme later, you have more options and won't have to leave 2 or 3 lemon russ's sitting at home all the time.
COngrats on choosing the Imperium!
If i might say:
Armored COmpany is cool, but it's a 'Niche army,a nd can sometimes come into trouble fielding it.
If you want to do one as your starting army then, Iw ould say go for teh Mechanized Infantry list.
BUT- and this is a big BUT! lol
Read any and all IG Tank Tactica's you can find, as nothing will kill the game fo ryou faster than dropping cash on stuff you end up hating.
Also know it is entirely possible to use Cadian/catachan models, but use the Steel legion list. Becasue, I just have to warna fellow imperialist lol, $30.00 box of metal Guard will die, Fast. REAL fast.
BUT- the steel legion are some of the slickest looking troop/infantry models for 40k.
One the Tanks-
If youa re planig for advance's, the Demolisher is good. As I believe (THough I may be wrong) That you can fire it while moving? And you will actually probably take out more 3+ stuff- SM.CSM>Necrons witht he plasma cannons than on a normal Russ. So is way worth it there, as you have three deadly wepons on board. And if you want it to last, runa couple of Chimera's beside it. If you are an advancing army, I migth even go with 2 Demolishers and just the one original style Russ.
Anyway, GOod luck!
I'm partial to the current cadians over all other guardsmen. but if you must go steel legion..
don't get me wrong. I love the look of Armegeddon Steel Legion, I jsut like cadians more. and there's the $$ issue...
It depends on what games you will be playing. Are you out to win win win, or just have fun and winning the occasional game is a bonus? Are you going to be playing against people who accept opponents consent rules (vanquisher or the AC list)?
If you're playing cityfight/cities of death.. you'd be wise to take at least one hellhound and one demolisher. If you're playing on regular 6x4 table.. I'd recommend 1 or 2 bassies.
If I up and decided to invest a lot more$$$$$ on 40K, and by chance decided on fluffy steel legion, I would go something like this:
DOCTRINES: Mechanized, Grenadiers, Close Order Drill, Special Equipment: Chem-inhalers
Chimera w/Multilaser and heavy bolter
Close Order Drill
1 Command Squad w/Heavy Bolter
2 squads with missile launchers
3 Chimeras w/Multilaser and heavy bolter
6 to 10 Stormies
2 Plasmaguns or 1 plasma and 1 melta
Chimera w/Multilaser and heavy bolter
-1 to 2 Hellhounds
-2 to 3 Armageddon Pattern Sentinels w/Lascannons
-1 Leman Russ Demolisher
-1 to 2 Armageddon Pattern Basilisk
