I was thinking of starting space marines but playing tactical sqauds seemed too boring for my taste. so I decided that if i was to go space marine, that i would have all jump infantry. Maybe supported by tanks rumbling up the center while my jump troops fly under the radar (pun intended).
I was wondering if anyone else runs an all jump troops list and if so then what are the advantages and disadvantages. And how do your games usually unfold and any lessons you might want to pass on. All advice is welcome as i'm a returning 40K player, cuz I'm a bit rusty.
Use two things of scouts for troops, and the trait "blessed be the warriors" (I think) that lets you take 6 assault squads. Max them out, and have two jump heroes with them. Chaplains are wicked with assault marines, and maybe a librarian or a second chaplain.
Give your elites spot squads furious charge and make sure the chaplains are with two of those squads.
Reroll to hit on the charge, strength 5, initiative 5. And give all if your vet sergeants power fists and plasma pistols. And all jump pack models should have melta bombs.

Yea Chaplains are what you want for CC. I would take "Bring the Battle to Them" and have two small squads of CCM and the rest Assualt Marines. Maybe supported by Whirlwinds.
I would suggest playing Blood Angels since you get 2 things that all other Jump Infantry armies won't get. If you use them you can have 3 Elite Jump Infantry Squads, 3 Fast Assault Jump Infantry squads, you get DC which can all have Jump Packs and you can give your other HQ (preferably a Librarian) a jump pack and give him Honor Guard, which all also can have Jump Packs and in the honr guard 1 can become a Priest, 1 can become a standard bearer (and still have a jump pack, how cool), you also get a sargeant which is cool (give him a power fist), and most fun of all every guy in the squad can be given a power weapon. Then all you have to do is throw in 2 squads of scouts and some tanks for heavy supports (how about Baal Preds? they are nasty fun and can move and still shoot every weapon they own). While this would be an expensive army points wise, you could actually have something like 15 power weapons on the field and have 75+ troopers with jump packs.
yea Blood Angels work well if you want a CC army or you could just take Blessed Be the Warriors as regular marines. I do the latter choice so I can take like 5 squads of assault marines and still have around 2 tac squads with heavy support (for 1500 pts). I definitely reccomend the chaplain as your HQ.
And you will not be able to have 75+ troops all with jump packs AND Baal predators unless you're doing a battle over 2000 pts. In 1500 pts (tournament size) you will get 40ish troops. The one problem you may run into is not having enough anti- tank. For anti-tank you should give your sergeants powerfists and your squads meltabombs.
Check out my list in the army list section called Raven Guard- ASSAULT SQUAD BONANZA!!! or something like that. It's just an example of what a jump troop army may look like.
