    Sub-Unit Tricks

    hi,

    I don't play IG but I was wondering why I don't see more more people implementing this tactic.

    Take a minimum last chancers (or whatever you like) and split them up into as many sub units as you can (5 right?).

    now then 1 of these contains shcaeffer, kage and a few last chancers. The other 4 consist of 1 man with a demolition charge. Couple this with deep strike and it becomes nasty.

    This 1 man now provides 3 benefits.

    1. he gets off a shot with his demo charge, for a cheap guy you can blow easily blow apart more MEQ's than he costs.

    2. since hes still a squad he can hold and contest objectives. Unless your opponent is going to waste an entire squads shooting to kill 1 guy (advantage to you) he can deep strike onto objectives and annoy the hell out of your opponent.

    3. He can harass the enemy, if they have weak cc ability (like tau or IG) then he can charge in and if hes lucky he can tie up an enemy in cc. Or he can charge alongside another squad and they must choose to direct all their attacks against either him or the other squad (which may be another 1 man unit). If your not feeling lucky with armour and morale he can simply harass them with his lasgun.


    Since hes deep striking there is no way to counter this, he can always implement his attack for just over 20 points. If he kills 2 marines with his demo charge hes already made back his points and more. I'm just curious why people never use this, its not as though IG really need that other HQ slot.

    well, as good as the demo sounds, there's a big chance it doesn't hit. first, you have to get within 6-12" of the objective and if you roll a bad scatter throw, than the unit is either dead or wasted in the open field. And then you have to hit with the demo, so in the end, you must roll two good scatter die. And the fact that he costs only xx points...well, keep in mind, if you have 4 of them they are the same cost like a tooled up troop squad or 2 non-updated ones. if you consider schaeffer and kage, the whole last chancers cost the the same like a platoon......

    The main drawbacks to the Last Chancers are the costs for Schaeffer and Kage and the upgrade cost to make a model into a specialist. When you start out with a base cost of over 100 points to take these guys, before you have even selected your first actual Last Chancer, it seems a little too much. Like has been posted numerous times, the points for these guys add up rapidly and before you know it your paying more for a group of guys with lasguns, a few special weapons or demo charges, or power weapons than you would for a space marine honor guard. These guys really are Kill Team specialists (as they were intended it seems) and should probably be used as such.
